Problem with my CY-8 Ride

Hello everyone. I have a problem and I need someone's help. I own a TD-20 set, which was originally a TD-6. I upgraded and bought a TD-20 Module with the same pads. I added an extra tom and 2 extra cymbals. I never had a problem with my cy-8 that acts like a ride cymbal, but now its sounds low in volume, rather unresponsive. When I play my ride, I can hardly hear it. My three crashes sound just fine and loud, but I barely hear my ride cymbal. I checked the volume, and everything is all the way up. But the sound of the ride is very faint, could hardly hear it. I tried switching the ride cymbal to one of my crashes but still sounds faint. I also tested this by taking the same using the same cable on the ride and putting it into a PD-8, still very low in volume.

Perhaps I need a new cy-8. Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

I would like to have my ride cymbal working...

I dont think the pad will be the problem. Is the fader for ride lower than the others?

the TD-20 has a 3 zone cymbal capability. Since you are using a dual zone trigger, you may need to change the factory settings of the "3-way rim" to the "off" position.

I doubt that'd change the volume of the ride. And if other pads do the same thing on the sme input, I'd guess at it being a level set wrongly somewhere.

Ride Cymbal

The old CY-6 that I used as a ride cymbal before I got the CY-12R/C has the same problem. I think that is because my ride cymbal got more use than the other CY-6 I used to use for a crash (I'd bang that thing!!). I now have a CY-12R/C and the feel and response are much better. Additionally, it seems that the CY-6/8's are better for use as a crash. The CY-12R/C and CY-15R are really designed from the ground up to take more use (punishment) as a ride cymbal. I'd wait and save up for one of those.

A big bump to Drumzilla here. My CY8's took a LOT of tweaking just to get them moderately even in response as a crash. I tried one of mine as a ride but it was far from ideal in that role even with considerable tweaking. My CY12 R/C is lightyears ahead as a ride, especially after doing the bell fix mod on it.

Problem with my CY-8 ride.

Hello, I want to thank everyone for their input. You guys/gals are great. I think I figured out what the problem is with my CY-8 cymbal. It seems that when I connect my CY-8 to my ride port using the RD labed cable on the back of the TD-20 it doesn't sound as loud as the other cymbals, no matter what pad I use. So I what I did was to connect that CY-8 to my auxilairy port 1 and I connected another cy-8 to auxiliary port 2 and the volume problem was fixed. I just cannot figure out why only that ride does the cymbal sound faint. I have not been able to figure out why.

Anybody out there want to make a comment regarding this? Is there perhaps something wrong with the ride port, perhaps?

Check that the trigger type for the Ride on input 10 is correctly set to CY8 at TRIGGER, BANK. Even if it is, try changing it to a different type then back to CY8 to reset trigger parameters for that input to defaults for a CY-8.

Press TRIGGER. Press F1 (BANK). Cursor right and down to Input 10. Use +/- until CY8 appears to the right of 10. If it already says CY8 there, use + once then - once to move away from and back to CY8.

You should also try moving the Ride fader down and back up (with the top section of faders selected).
