  • Quick Records on TD-9

A few questions regarding quick records...Can the TD-9 only store one quick record?....It seems everytime I do a new recording it overwrites the previous...Now I have figured out how to use the USB key to back them up and reload them but they get saved as a meaningless name...Can these be renamed? Lastly how can I play these back on a PC using Media Player or such? When I look at the files they are .TD9 files....Thanks!

Only one Quick Record "performance" is available at a time.

If you do neither, the last recorded Quick Record performance is retained (for playback) even after the TD-9 module is powered off. In other words, you can only have one Quick Record file/performance active at a time. If you want to record a new performance and not lose the current performance, you must save it to an external USB flash drive.

Each Quick Record performance can be named while saving the file to a USB key. The details are outlined on page 57 of the TD-9 Owner's Manual.

No. Quick Record files are saved in a proprietary TD-9 format.

    Hope this helps!

Yes they can be renamed, and you can save 99 of them to a usb drive. Quick records are not sound files, but trigger info. The good news is that you can play back any quick record using any kit in the module. The bad news is that if you want a sound recording of your quick record to share with others, you will need to record the sound via traditional means (audio-out to a sound card or mixer) and then on to your hard drive.

edit: beat me to it Drew....and far better I might add.

Well, yes this is true. But, this probably has nothing to do with the "meaningless name" that he is talking about. I think he is talking about the file name that he will see on his PC when he sticks the USB stick into his PC.

The instructions on page 57 tell him how to change the name that appears on the TD-9 LCD -- this has no effect on the file name on his PC. The TD-9 LCD name is embedded into the file, and windows doesn't know that the name even exists, so it will not display that name. The filename that he does see on his PC will always be of the form: SEQD???.TD9, where ??? is the file number of 001 through 100.

So, to answer his question. Yes, you can rename that file if you want. But, the TD-9 will NOT recognize it. It has to be named SEQD???.TD9, where ??? is the number 001 through 100.

But, if you want to keep copies of those performances on your PC, then it does make sense to rename it with a meaningful name. However, when you want to copy it back to your TD-9, you need to rename the copy on your USB thumbdrive to SEQD???.TD9

Since you cannot really DO anything with the .td9 files outside of the module, then there is no reason to change the "meaningless" file name. When I back up my module to my hard drive, I put the files in a folder with today's date as the name. New backup, new folder. That way, there can be many repeated meaningless names, but all are different.
If you want to keep track of certain great performances, make a folder with the name you want, and place the file inside without changing it's name.

So there is no way to convert the SEQD.TD9 file to another format to playback apart from the TD9 kit? I was really hoping to be able to listen to and share my recorded performances via USB and not mess with MIDI.

remember you can always just record audio via the master outs...lots of programmes will record for you, a free one call audacity has been mentioned...

I just bought the 1/8 cable & ran it from the 1/4 adapter into my headphones in the bottom part of the module & the other end into the mic in on my laptop. I'm using Kristal for my recording software but it's not recognizing that I have it plugged in, any ideas?

try running it into the line in, it is too hot a signal for the mic in. Should still recognise it though, but I dont know Kristal.
