VH-12 foot senstivity

i recently bought a td-20 (kit).
i like the feel of the hi-hat pedal when the hats are wide open but the trigger level always goes above red when the hi-hat is played with the pedal.
is there a way to set the sensitivity of the foot pedal for the hi-hat (im not talking about the foot splash)
if it helps, i am using a dw 5000 hi-hat stand.

pls give suggestions.
