TD3 Master Volume Too low? HH Open/close beats

Hi there,

Today I brought home a TD-3KW set. I have encountered two problems.

1) The main volume on the TD3 Module output is WAY too quiet! Barely able to hear the music over my stick hits even with noise canceling headphones. With instrument volumes set up to 15 and the volume pot on the back cranked. I then plug it into my 600 what amp and I have to crank that like 90% to get anything decent out of it! Is there an internal mastervolume? I can't seem to find what Im looking for in the manual? I also have searched through this forum and about 25+ threads.

2) Secondly I am having issues with the HH Control. Is the TD3 module changing between open/halfopen/closed high hat sounds without hitting the trigger? It seems like opening the high hat all the way before I hit the high hat during funk beats is the only way I can manage these types of beats. This seems like a really bland technique. Am I doing something wrong ?

Are you definitely using the right output? I know that several people have asked this, and they have been plugged into the wrong socket.

I don't find my TD3 very loud.. Its more than loud enough (Through headphones), but I would like it to be a little louder, so that I have the ability to turn it up if I want to.. But its certainly loud enough and when connected to my AP30 amp, its very loud at about 1/4 volume!

If you want me to do any comparative tests with mine, feel free to ask.

Yes left and right master outs ... to mixer ... to amp

so now u have the correct headphone socket does it work?

I think you should try the Left (Mono) Output on the back, which is what most would use for an amp connection as recommended in the manual; and perhaps try a different cable too.

Yep.. Thats the same output that I use.. For my AMP, I have run 2 jack leads from the brain to the amp.. You need two (As far as I know) as the kit is stereo, and the drums can be 'placed' anywhere from Left (-16) to right (+16).. So if you only run one cable, you would only get sounds from the left side.

I could be wrong about this, but thats what I have done and it works for me.

As for your volume, the only thing I can think of is the impedence of your headphones.. But if your amp is the same, then something is certainly wrong.

Mine through headphones at full volume is loud.. Not very loud, but certainly loud enough to drown out any external noise.. Infact, my friend tells me that I play it TOO loud, but I don't agree... I can say with certainty that I would like it louder if I could, just so that I have the option to turn it up IF I want.

On the amp side, its VERY loud.. I have the brain at full volume and the amp at 2 (on a 0-10 scale) and it can be heard outside the house. Considering its just a Traps AP30 (30W) amp, I don't think there is any problem here.

Is there a special feature of the TD3 where the Left output carries both channels? In the manual there is no mention of a mono amp.. The only section shows a 'hifi' connected by stereo leads.. And if you are right and the left connector carries both channels, then how will this work in a stereo application, as you would then get the L+R channels out of the left speaker and the R channel out of the right.

I am not doubting you, but based on the info I have, it doesn't sound right. I will go and check mine later and see what happens when I pull out the right connector.

If u go left out (mono) and go to a mono input on a mixer or amp, the one cable carries a mono signal spread across the left/right field, if u go left and right out this cancels out the mono and becomes stereo out ie 1 through right and 1 through left, if u were to go right out on its own to a mono input it would produce mono in right channel only so u would miss half.

lots of drum monitors are basic 1 cab 1 speaker mono. If u want stereo then u need either powered stereo monitors or stereo amp and 2 cabs.

Wow!! You do learn something new every day.. I looked at the manual to work out how to connect a mono amp and because I couldn't see a picture, I just gave up

Thanks for that.. I guess I will remove one of my cables now!
