ok, here's waht I'm looking for. I don't even know if it's possible, but it's what I would like to do. I want to get some electric pads to go with my acoustic set. I need to know if it is possible to upload my own recorded samples and sounds to the unit so I can use them during my band's live show. Please get back to me, anyone with info on this, I am very interested in this possibility.

Sampler or DTXtreme, both should do the trick. Sampler has the advantage of built-in editing, but if you want to do all the editing work on your computer and with a nice big screen, the DTXtreme will suit you fine.

Don't forget the Ddrum4 in which you can dump your own samples too.


Maybe it's a good idea to use a Roland SPD-20 octapad with a sampler and maybe some extra pads.

How many of your own sounds do you want to use?

If you just want a couple effects and samples per song, I agree with MPCMan, just get the SPD20 and a little sampler, and then you can keep the acoustic, and just have a small sampling "station" as part of your kit.

That's all you'd need right there.

Anyone remember those old Simmons SDS-1 pads. They had the electronics built in and you even could change the e-prom and/or program a sound with a Simmons e-prom blower. Perfect as an addition to your acoustic kit. Those were the days...

Remember it??? Heck dude i OWNED one and had access to an e-prom burner too (back then you had to erase the prom by exposing it to a kinda black light for 30 minutes or so). Pre-burned sampes were available and i had a few of them inclusing snare, tympany and glass breaking.

It was pretty cool for it's time and you could also set the sample for "sweep time" so that it would "sweep" down tonally with each consecutive hit. You could also set the time to have the sample sweep.

Other settings included setting the sample's rate (tone/sound of sample). The snare e-prom was fun... especially when set to a slow/low rate. Was then an explosion more than a snare drum. The tympany e-prom wasn't so good though :-( . The glass breaking was cool at the time and went well when playing Rush YYZ :-)

The drummer of my boss's band has an old Simmons SDX kit. It's been standing for more than a year somewhere in our shop now, getting veeeeeeery dusty. He's to busy with his ddrum4 setup nowadays
