  • V-custom vs Hart's Mega Pro with TD-8, about same price

Hi all, new member here. Got it down to either the V-custom or the Mega Pro using the TD-8, will be in my living room soon Look at this beauty:
    http://www.hartdynamics.com/products...pro/index.html

The two sets are about the same price but I'm concerned with play noise level (live in apartment). I found lots of posts here that say Hart is louder but is it ok for an apartment?

Also, never tried the Hart set but seems to be the better set overall (feel, quality, etc.), and seems to work great with the TD-8. Any comments would be appreciated.

Does anybody know where I can demo a Hart kit in or around Los Angeles? Can't find any dealers...

    Thanks,
    Andre

There is little difference in the noise level of the Hart drum pads with the guards on the rims, but the cymbals can be quite a bit noisier than other alternatives. If you have never tried the Hart, then you are only relying on hearsay in forming the opinions you already appear to have. Once you do try it, you may or may not agree with those the things you have heard/read. The best advice I can give is to demo thoroughly, first. Feel is important yes, but is soooo subjective.

For my $.02, nothing triggers a Roland module better than the newer Roland pads. And I've tried just about everything. Hart makes an excellent product that comes close and is a great quality alternative. The feel between the two is quite different. The Hart cymbals may present a noise issue in an apartment (again try 'em and you will be able to tell if it is acceptable vs. something else.)

Don't rely on my opinion or anyone else's as to what's "best" though. I suspect that szvook would enjoy playing my predominantly Roland kit, partly because it has familiar Hart-looking and great feeling heads, but mostly because of all the great outboard things it has going on between the sampler, my Lexicon unit, and the many other peripheral effects. I bet I'd dig his kit too, but in the end, we'd probably both stick with our own, given the choice...Or maybe we'd hate each others' rigs. Point is, the best choice can only be made by you, based on your needs, tastes, circumstances and pocketbook.

Ditto. Of the e-kits here, yours is one that I'd like a closer inspection of some time. BTW, I used to live on N. Martel in Hollywood (briefly) when I was on again off again in school at U.C.L.A.

Same goes for me Dr., your set up is solid. I am just a bit east/north of Martel, borderline with Studio City & N. Hollywood (Ventura & Laurel Canyon).

Congrats, man. You know, most guys at best have a picture of their girl, you have a poster. (Either that or she's enormous.) But seriously, congrats.

PS: Its the picture from her portfolio, after I scanned it I kept the size (makes for a good and clean screen background, my computer screen is 23 inches).

                          Hey Szvook,

                          You ARE Hugh Hefner!

Congratulations and Best Wishes for a long and happy one. (Disregard "Them Chains, them Chains, them Clankin' Chains" music playing in the background)

although this board functions for me as an escape from the issues of marriage (been living with my gf for 4 years now and all the siblings are finally hitched ), i offer you and the future mrs(zv) szvook my congratulations!
