  • DTXtreme...a change of heart? maybe..

    Hi all,
For months I've been quite negative towards the Xtreme and recently had another chance to try one out. I went to Mars where gear is usually beat to death and e-drums demo horribly. Not the case this time. I did some research before I went and it made alot of difference.
There are a few adjustments that make the kit play very differently depending o how they are set.
The rim and head sensitivity adjustments on the bottom of the pad interact with each other. I found that setting the head all the way and the rim 3/4 made the pad react like you would expect. Increasing and decreasing caused interesting "blending". Adjusting the sensitivity and velocity levels (decreasing the level o/o setting down) made the pads track incredibly well down to the slightest tap near the edge. Even with the gain low, they tracked as well as any pad I've ever played.
The Hi Hat pedal also worked flawlessly with a tiny bit of tweaking.
Rim shot/cross stick IS possible as there is a "voice" called realrim. This was a big gripe for me as I did not know the Xtreme could do this.
The cymbals are NOT as good as the new V Cymbals but are better IMHO than the PD's.
I am seriously considering picking up the 6 pcs. kit as the price is around $2,350.00 online.

I played them recently and was impressed as well...more so than I had been previously. I actually think the samples are pretty good. I se another thread here than does not concur with this...but, hey thats what makes the world go round I guess. the sequencer is very much fun for rehearsing with.....

I'm glad other people are giving the DTXtreme second looks, I think it's a much better module than it's being given credit for. I like the feel and it's a great deal at the prices you can find online, try www.riksmusic.com, they have a fantastic price last I looked.

If and when I have the $$$...

            I would love to have:

            1. My acoustics (already have.....)

            2. My VDrums (already have....)

            3. DTXtremes (just for the flexibility and fun of it...)

            4. DDrums (DDrum5 when they come out, too many limitations right now with DDrum4....)

            5. Room to set them all up (already have it...)

            6. Major sound/effects amplification (an ever growing collection - with special thanks to svook for his wisdom and unbiased support....)

It's only a matter of $$, and when you're 40 something, life's priorities take on a whole new meaning. New chick magnet car, or new e-drum drums? Need I say more!! Dream on my fellow e-drummers!! Life is meant to have all the drums!!
Driving a great song is better than driving a great car!!
