Roldan CY6 question/Help

OK, after all this talk about cybals, I think that I have decided to go with Roland CY6's for crash, Hart High's and I am not sure yet what to do for the ride, BUT...

How do you mount the CY6's to the kit. Do I need to buy one of those $55.00 roland stands??? Do they come with anything? What abought that sprint thingy that people have been talking about? What would be the best way to add these? Can I just add then to the cymbal boom that came with my Roland VPro stand?? Thanks guys.

I believe the mount that you refer to above in the Roland MDY-10U hatched cymbal mount. That is what I bought. It comes with the boom stand, an "L" rod and a hatched clamp for the rack. (These are the same stands that came with my Session kit.) Although Midwest Percussion's website quotes $56.95 for the price, if you call them, they will quote you about 1/2 that. (I can't remember what I paid but I think it was $22.95 or $24.95 each when I ordered two and two CY-6s to add to my setup.) By the way, their price on CY-6s is $79.00 if you're interested. I got two CY-6s and the two MDY-10U boom stands with all the hardware for under $220 delivered. Hope that helps.

I have a question of my own. What pad trigger type do you select in the trigger setup on the TD-8/10? Do you select PD7? I assume the CY-6 is dual-trigger and behaves more or less like the PD-7.

I have a TD-10exp. The TDW-1 upgrade with V-cymbal control gives me CrA and CrB options for use on the V-crashes. In trigger bank two, inputs 8 and 9 (for Crashes 1 and 2) are preset to CrB (so is input 12 which is unused with the standard Session kit unless you add on a pad or swith around). The default in trigger bank 1 is P9B. If you want to get the most out of the V-cymbals, the TDW-1 really makes a difference. If you have or get a TDW-1, use trigger bank 2 to start with and play with it from there. If you don't, you will get bass drum hits with the cymbal sound on the ride and some other effects that may or may not be desirable (you can do that on purpose if you want, but try trigger bank 2 with TDW-1 for good initial results). If you don't have or get a TDW-1 (I see you have a TD-8), I'm not sure about the settings but the CY-6s are dual trigger so I would try all available dual trigger settings and see what gives you the best result.

I just ordered two CY-6s and stands for both. I ordered by phone and gave the model #MDY-10U which I have double checked is correct. I haven't received them yet. Maybe the guy that took my order punched in the wrong thing and is sending me pad mounts with my cymbals. I will double check with them tomorrow during business hours and get back to you. If that is what happened, I'm sorry for giving you bad info. The guy called back to me, "MDY-10U hatched cymbal mounts, $24.95", but maybe his screen was showing something like "hatched mount, $24.94 and he just assumed and is planning on sending the wrong thing. Hope not. Will let you know.

I checked. They were sending me the hatched tom mount. Afraid the Roland MDY-10U hatched cymbal mount is $54.99 at Midwest after all. I did see a similar Gibraltar cymbal mount in a local music shop yesterday for under $30. It looked adjustable to fit just about any rack. You may want to check out online prices for a Gibraltar piece, which may be even less, and I've always had good luck with their gear. (If I ever have a problem with the Roland rack, I will probably switch it out to a Gibraltar.)

They are on back order. (High demand at that price.) I was told two to three weeks, and it has been at least a week already. They have the (expensive) stands in stock though, although I guess you'll be passing on them. But don't get me wrong, their prices and service are overall great and I have bought quite a bit of gear from them as a result, and keep going back. My only complaints would be that you have to wait on hold for them when you call and they can be out of stock on items from time to time. But, that said, their web site is pretty good for self serve, and when you speak to someone they know their stuff if you do have to call.

Hi Chuck

I have the TD8 and am using the CY6 set to the 12A trigger, with the sensitivity set to 9 and threshold set to 3, if seems to work well enought. I also have the CY14 and am not at all impressed, the cy6 seem at this moment to have been a better(and cheaper) buy. The Hi Hsts seem ok at the moment but as i have only have them a week i am still feeling my way.

Does anyone know if it is possible to determine if sounds used on the demo songs can be duplicated, ie. the snare on the funk song?
