  • SPD6 - what a joke - big disappointment

Well I was in the market for some type of supplemental perc. multi-pad and had high hopes for the SPD-6. I couldn't wait however, and ended up buying a SPD20 and I love it. Yesterday I was at my local music store and finally saw and tried the SPD6. What a joke -this thing looks like it was made by Fisher Price - it's TINY. IMHO way to small to play live - the sounds are ok but way too limited MIDI applications etc.. I really don't know why they even made this unit and for $295 - you would be better off getting a used SPD11 or SPD 20.

I can agree with you man! In the Netherlands, the advertisement says it has a MIDI OUT, so you can control other devices or record it.
Playing back what you have just played would be very useful too!

Yes, but the price is way to high, it should cost about the same of the Yamaha DD-50 or DD-55 considering what it does...

By the way, would someone have a list of the different multipads (still being manufactured) available?
SDP20 - real nice I highly recommend. Hey Harlock what's up with the v cymbals? Have you received them yet?

I was luckily enough to win an SDP-6 at an E-Drum expo. I've used it for several months now and it is great as an additional 8 triggers to my V-Customs (six pads and two foot switches). I don't think I've even listened to it's onboard sounds, I've just midi'd it up to the TD8.

I use it for cow bells, guiro's, reverse cymbal, hand clap, chimes . . . really all those things that you might only use a few times through the night: and therefore dont want to tie up a 'normal' trigger for.

Sometimes I've even used three pads as toms; giving me 6 toms on the kit . . it works fine

Okay, so the pads are small, but it's just a case of being a little more accurate; or developing a better technique . . . the bell of a cymbal is small, but we can all hit that when we need to can't we?

I think the SPD-6 is a great addition to any V's: certainly cheaper than buying 8 separate triggers.

But I did get it free .........

While not an extensive listing, the following link shows several lines of pad controllers available:

It's nice to see KAT was back in business. Their DK10 looks like a much better pad than the SPD-6. Does anyone know if their mallet line has returned?

The malletKAT is still being made, with or without sounds.
