  • V-Cymbals Confuse Me!

I walked into Mars today and they had a V-session set, complete with V-Cymbals. They didn't really look like the ones in the photo on Roland's Web site. It's hard to tell from a photo, but those (above) look like a medium gray hard plastic. The ones on the set were a thick, black, soft rubber.

Were these indeed V-Cymbals I was looking at?

Also, I don't understand why/when you need two TD-10 jacks for the V-Cymbals. I followed the cables on this set from the cymbal to the brain, and it was only using one jack. I tested it, and it was producing both sounds (ride and bell).

Can somebody help clear this stuff up for me?

    Thanks.

This may sound a bit snotty but I am completely sick of hearing this question does anybody read.....the threads on this subject and I recall reading it on roland.us in the products pages the crash cymbals and high hats are double zone and the ride is a three zone only with the upgrade (two zone without upgrade taking one input) which is free from roland. After the upgrade the ride is a three zone {bell'bow'edge}pad taking the ride input plus aux 11 input.

Why is everybody so lazy it only takes a couple of clicks to go to a roland site or use the search function.

Sorry for the rude reply but as I said I am sick of this question.

Perhaps the "post message" form should emit a warning for those without this insight.

As for the product photo, I think it's just heavy lighting that makes them look lighter in color... look how much darker the bottom part of the hi-hat is. In other pictures they look more like black rubber.

          redman,

For me it's not a matter of being lazy, but one of being stupid. I've read everything I could find on the forum about it. I just don't understand it. In fact, I only think I understand your answer. I'm not sure I know what a "zone" is. I'm completely new, not only to V-Drums, but to electronic music in general. But I understand this is no excuse for asking a question that you feel has been significantly addressed. I'm sorry. Maybe seeing that I'm from Utah will help you understand why I'm so dumb.

Perhaps the forum admin would be well-served to let you put together a V-Drum IQ test that we must pass before we can post.

Thanks for the clarification. It really does look like a completely different product than the one I saw in the store. I'm glad it's not. All I need now is more confusion.

No stupid questions here... sometimes you get flamed, but no big deal. I have been flamed into soot but still love coming here... And as far as "zones" go - when used in edrumming, zones are usually areas of one pad that you can play to get different sounds out of. There are two basic types - dual "piezo" zones and dual zone "switch/piezo". The switch/piezo zone pads are generally PD7 or similar pads that have a center piezo and a membrane switch mainly used in choking applications... Dual "piezo" zoned pads are generally snare pads with a rim shot, or a ride cymbal with a bell. Dual piezo zone pads sometimes use a stereo out and sometimes use two mono outs. Piezo/switch dual zones (better termed "stereo pads") use a stereo out. This switch function can only be used in supporting modules.
Ok, I'm out of breath and tired now... But again - no such thing as a stupid question....

Perhaps it were the new cymbals which come with the td-6 kit

Seriously Mr. Adminstrator, you ought to consider making the Search button a little more conspicuous.

The search button may be large and obvious, but the reasons to use it are not. This is why I suggested a warning, i.e. "NOTE! Before you post...". If there's one thing I've learned from programming, it's that you can never expect the user to have the insight or common sense to figure things out themselves. You have to apply the "lowest common denominator" to every single interface, or there will be problems. It might take a bit longer, but at least they won't be busting through your door every 10 minutes to ask "stupid" questions. And for the ones who still don't bother to read the instructions, all you have to do is point to the screen and say "well if you can't read the instructions, I certainly can't help you either."

Unless you immerse yourself in some hardcore studying of these systems, you are headed for major disappointments. If, when all is said and done, you still don't "get it", either pay someone to do it for you, or perhaps you and E's were never meant to be.

Thanks for the advice Marc. I've had them for about 2 weeks now. I really didn't do a lot of homework or studying on them first. It was pretty much an impulse buy. I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made so far.

As for whether or not me and "E's" were meant to be, you may be right, regardless of whether or not I "get it". It probably won't be too popular for me to say this here, but my V-Drums are just a practice kit.

Well R.P., that's a very good sign. Pace yourself and enjoy. Good luck and pay no attention to these nimrods. I used to be a "use the SEARCH" warmonger, but in time one realizes one is just bangin' their own head against a wall. I still don't "get it" on certain things and I'll walk thru all the flames if it provides me an answer.

Thank Erik(sepdrums) for an xlnt synopsis in response to your initial query.

Harlock seems to have hit the question of the day. fsr/piezo/piezo....fsr/fsr/piezo???? Your search would have to be directly into the pad itself with knife in hand.

Whos gonna be the first to rip into one of these babies? Could we call it shipping damage ?
