Now that I ordered my V-Session...

After playing a V-Custom and V-Concert for an hour I finally decided the V-Custom felt a little too small and had a rubbery feel compared to the bigger mesh heads. So I decided to go all out and ordered the V-Session from Midwest percussion. I'm told they should be in stock in the next couple of weeks.

I plan on getting:
A Tama Iron Cobra power glide double beater. I've read in past posts here that the felt beater shouldn't be used with the KD120? Should I order the wood or rubber beaters? Is this pedal a good match?

A snare stand. Will any standard snare stand work with the V-Session snare?

A Tama sumo throne with the HTB5 backrest.

Sticks - any special type of sticks recommended for V-drum mesh heads?

Anyone with any comments or experiences with the above? Thanks.

I would not use wood beaters since they can dammage the heads. Choose rubber or hard felt

As long as the snare basket can hold 12 inch pads: yes.

I would not buy a chair with a backrest since people tend to hang against this backrest and for a good blood circulation it's important to sit on the frontside of the chair whith your legs resting on the pedals in a 90 degrees angle. Greetings from dr. Rob

Any sticks will do as long as they are no tree thrunk type

I think the Roland kick pads come with a plastic beater. You might want to pick up a second one for the double. I agree on nixing the backrest. When playing, you should optimally be balanced on your butt, and not even putting any weight on your feet. This gives you the most sped and versatility, as both hands and feet are free to play, and aren't supporting you. To balance, you may find yourself leaning back a bit at first. I would also suggest a bicycle/motorcycle type of throne, which I like better than the round ones. (Is the Sumo shaped like that?) Finally, pick sticks that youu like. I prefer heavier sticks (2Bs usually) with the vdrums. YMMV! $^)

A beater is supplied with the KD-120.

I have the Tama HT610 Sumo Seat as well as a rather long-winded post about it on this site: http://www.vdrums.com/discussion/For...ML/000386.html

No disrespect to Putt, but I find the Sumo Seat is actually more comfortable if your back is parallel to the rear of this particular throne. It even has a "lip" on the end of it to contour with your backside.

You mentioned that you were going to purchase your Sumo Seat with the optional HTB5 backrest. Will this part fit the Sumo Seat? I'd like to add it to my own if it does. Is the mounting plate on the HTB5 made to retrofit different sizes of thrones?

Thanks puttenvr, drmoze and marc for the tips. Yes, drmoze, the Sumo is a saddle seat - built to handle even a sumo wrestler, or so says at their site. I ordered the back rest because my back just gets sore with no support. I'll see how it goes, though. Midwest Percussion contacted me today and said the V-Sessions were in and would ship tomorrow!

Yes, Mick, I read your thread about the Sumo seat after I had already seen it at Tama's site. I did a search on Sumo before and your post came up and convinced me to buy it. I'm 6' and about 250 as well, so I wanted a good seat. According to Midwest's site, the HTB5 backrest is compatable with the HT510 and HT610 'Sumo' chairs. I'll post about it here when I get all my stuff in and let you know how it goes. I heard other good things about it on Usenet as well.

SOunds like you'll have lots of fun with the new kit! As for the backrest, personally I would work on my posture and balance. (In fact, that's what I *am* doing!!!) Relying on a backrest puts your weight in the wrong places and can also cause problems, plus impede your range of motion.

Yeah, I'll take your advice and work on my posture, but I feel the back rest may come in handy when I'm tweaking things and want to kick back for a break.

I finally received my Sumo seat and yes, the HTB5 backrest fits it. It looks like it will only support 1st chair thrones.
