Well in MHO I think it is worth having, but that all depends on what you are going to do with it. There are other alternatives like a DrumKat or SPD-11 or even SPD-8. Keep an eye on E-Bay because SPD-20's pop up on there once in awhile. I have an SPD-20, TD-10, TD-8 and HPD-15 and love every piece. But again I tend to have more money than brains

Ah custom sounds, a sampler, here's some very affordable models of late. Peavey SP, technicly not a sampler but you can load up to 32 meg of sounds into it, $100-300. Akai S2000 $200-350, a sampler ,you can put up 32 meg plus 8meg flash rom board, Akai 2800 $250-500, 16 meg, Ensonique ASR10 $350-650, 16 meg plus sequencer, there are some Kurzweil K2000r's floating around for $600, sampler playback with sampling option. There are alot of very good 16 bit samplers for not alot of cash, it's becomming very popular.Drumkat Turbo 4.5, Emulator X3, Superior 2.1, Roland Fantom XR, DTXtreme III, SPD-20 etc.......

I've got an SPD20 and I like it alot. But I can't say I can tell you to buy it for the awesome industrial sounds. There's alot of stuff in there that I will never use. Unless I start doing soundtracks for cartoons. But I do use it. I also like to think that I could use it for a backup module if my TD10 went down.
CaptKidd... I just ordered a HPD15. Any advice you care to share?

I have a V-custom and an SPD-20 and there are many, many fabulous world perc. samples in the SPD that you wont find in the TD-8/10, and the sound quality is just lush to boot. Also, with my old KD-5, FD-7 and a couple of PD-7's the SPD makes a great wee portable e-kit; I use it thus with a small acoustic kit for one band, and I find this palette pleasingly broad.
There are some great prices for the SPD s/h in USA, and you'll get plenny of bang for your buck.
jus' my n Euro's,
J.
