Updated the TD-8! CY-6?

Thanks to the advice on this forum and a computer-savy friend I now have a 1999 TD-8 which is updated to version 1.1.
I've read through a lot of the many posts here concerning the Roland CY-6 cymbals. Quite often posters don't mention what module they're useing; which can make a substantial difference. However, the concencus seems to be that CY-6's work well as hi hats on the TD-8 except that they were (and possibly still are?) prone to being defective. ie: self choking, cutting out inexplicably etc. Conversely, the CY-12H makes a superior H-H on the TD-10X but no better than a CY-6 on the TD-8....(provided it doesn't break down.)
Does this sound like an accurate assesment to those more knowledgable among you?

Does anyone know if Roland has addressed the apparent problem they were having with the CY-6's?

Also, it looks like Pintech will be introducing some new e-cymbals in the very near future which leaves another possible alternative. I've done a couple of searches for news releases from Pintech & have found nothing. Anyone know anything? Thanks.

What is the basis for making this statement? I don't understand what it does on the TD-10ex that it doesn't do (or does poorly) on the TD-8.

Well, as I said, I read through a lot of the huge number posts on this subject &managed not to go cross eyed in the process & that's what it sounded like the concencus was...if indeed there is ANY concencus. I'll try to trace back & find the specific posts which left that impression. Meanwhile; do you know if Roland has remedied the CY-6 problem?

I don't own the CY-12H so I'm also going from what I have read. My take is it provides more realism, has some give when you strike it (friendly on the old wrists) and is more reliable. I know of no differences when played on a TD-8 or TD-10ex (which have V-cymbal control settings and better hi-hat sounds such as bow and edge). I don't believe you even need to have the updates in order to use them. The CY-6 has had several posts about it's inferior design regardless of how it is used (hat, crash, ride). There seems to be a reason for it's low price. It wasn't intended to be used as a hat (which gets more use than a crash). I have seen little in the way of negative reviews on the CY-12H and what I recall was more about taste instead of performance.

Eventually, I'll get the CY-12H. I wouldn't waste my money on the CY-6 (based on reviews and risk of it biting the dust). Please note: some people have had good luck with the CY-6 and are happy with their purchase. It's strictly a matter of risk IMO.

I didn't mean to put you to a lot of trouble detailing posts. I was just looking for something concrete on differences between the two to support your statement. Good luck with your decision.

Probably more similar to the Roland cymbals than HartDynamics. Supposed to have rubber completely covering the top.

Got my new CY's....

I bought a CY12H & CY14C privately from a drummer in eastern US. They're only a few months old & have been used very little; for all intents & purposes they're "new".
I'm very happy with them in congunction with my updated TD8. They feel nice & respond well...none of the problems some people (old TD8) referred to in months past. I can only guess that the update makes all the difference. One thing: I was hoping they'd provide a greater dynamic range than my PD7's but regardless of that they're still a definite improvement. I have the "pad type" set to CY2 and all other settings as suggested in the CY owner's booklet. I expect the booklet settings are meant for the TD10 but they seem to work fine for the TD8 as well.
BTW, the TD8 is way more fun now that it's been updated. Better & more interesting songs, memorized click sound etc. Maybe it's just because all the settings were returned to "factory" (correcting all my monkeying around!) but everything sounds cleaner now....
