  • Building a TD27 Kit: Roland/ATV Pads vs Drumtec Diabolo Toms

I am looking to build a kit around the TD27. I was going to go with the regular TD27kv kit but I want to swap out the floor tom for two of the larger ATV 13 inch pads (on the exs-5 series) and upgrade to a larger kick, either the ATV 18in or a Drumtec kick..

Browsing through the Drumtec site, I also saw the hand-hammered Diabolo toms and I really like the way they look. Of course it is a jump in cost and if I do go that route, I would probably want to do a 10in, 12in, and 13in tom, plus the kick.

My question is this: other than the look of the Drumtec shells, is there any other benefit over a Roland PDX-100 type of pad (or the ATV equivalent) in terms of feel, or will there be no noticeable difference if the size and mesh head are equal?
