  • TD-20 Direct Outputs - Balanced or Unbalanced?

I just put together my drum set and everything is working fine as far as Main L/R out of TD-20X.
However, I'm faillng on my next step - Hook all 8 direct outputs up to my X32 digital snake and have it sound "good". I think the issue may be (issue being that the direct outs sound bad) that the Direct Outs on the TD-20 drum module may be unbalanced HiZ line level and I have balanced pre amps in my X32 SD16 digital snake? BUT I can't actually find the answer to this in the TD-20 manual or official Roland knowledge base. I am also too stupid (grin) to use the search properly within this forum (forgive me... I was trying) in order to NOT post a new question if the answer is already within the group here... QUESTION> Are the 8 direct outputs on the TD-20 balanced/LowZ or unbalanced HiZ? THanks!

Thanks for the help.. embarrassed that I missed that when I searched - grin. I used (4) Radial DI2's to get the unbalanced/balanced and it's sounding great!

Keep in mind that the direct out come out without any compression or effects at all. They're flat.

I was wondering if anybody could address the following problem on TD-20 that has driven me bananas...

Is there a way to isolate Left and Right channels at the Main (Master) outputs?
Normally, the Left channel at the Main (Master) outputs has also the mono information. I would like to switch off the mono signal of the Main (Master) Left output and have these outputs 100% stereo only!

Your help would be profoundly appreciated!!!

          Regards,

          Fotis/

Thank you for your input, yet I believe that even when you plug in the Right channel output as well, the Left channel output still carries the mono signal in addition to the Left channel signal. I was drawn to these conclusion because when I plug in these two master outputs (L and R) to a Zoom H6 recorder, I get phase cancellation issues. As soon as I do the same from two direct outputs (configured as L and R) these cancellation issues are gone!

That doesn't make sense. The L & R signals (even if the L were somehow mono) should be in phase, so no cancelation. Recheck how you have the outputs configured. I believe you can only output each input to mains OR directs (see page 78 in the manual). You can do a factory reset of each (same page).
