  • Are older style (PD120/100) mesh heads worth upgrading?

    Hey there,
I've got a roland kit which is a few years old and has some older style PD100 and PD120 pads. One of the main reasons I got this kit, which the previous owner clearly upgraded, was the larger pads. I genuinely think it kicks the ass off of the smaller pad setups, but what I'm interested in is whether or not there would be any advantage to me upgrading them to newer pads. The PD100s are single trigger, but I plan on upgrading to trigger the rims too - I found a really straightforward guide on this.
Are the newer kits just cosmetically different?
I just upgraded the KD8 to a KD80 which will be clamped to my rack for extra stability.
    Any opinions would be great!

It depends on what module you are using. The PD128 is optimised for the latest generation of modules, but the 100 and 120 can be easily converted to dual zone. You can even buy a Roland basket to replace the crossbar.

Whats the basket? The PD120 comes as a dual trigger out the box, but the PD100 has the ports to be soldered to. I have a TD9, but I'm moving to a TD15 soon.

The PD125 and 128 have better rim triggering than the 120. The head trigger may be the same. The basket is the part inside the PD125 that holds the triggers.

Good to know! In the future I may upgrade the snare. I rarely use the rims on the flow toms.
