  • TD-7 MIDI to USB. No output?

Hi folks, new guy asking what's probably an easy fix, I'm not sure.

I've got an old TD-7 kit which I initialized so that it's got all factory settings, and I'm trying to get my PC (Windows 10) to recognize that there is a midi device connected via USB. I'm using a generic MIDI-to-USB connector which is brand new, and shows up in the device manager (midi device 2.0). There is a steady green light on indicating that it has power, but regardless of the orientation of the MIDI in and out cables (I tried swapping them just in case I had the connection mixed up), when I'm hitting the triggers, there is no indication that a signal is outputting. I'm of the mind that when I hit a pad, that the LED indicator for output should blink, which I am not getting. Checking the the settings for MIDI connectivity in the TD-7, it says In and Out are both On.

Additionally, when trying to map my drums in SD2, it says that no MIDI device is found.

Needless to say, I am at a brick wall and unsure of how to progress from here. Would anyone mind offering some insight on what I could possibly be doing wrong?

You very well might have a bad cable. Those USB/MIDI cables on eBay are notorious for trouble. Do a search on this site, and you'll see...

I have no idea. I assume that it's standard windows MIDI drivers. There wasn't any specified with the cables, so I'm unsure ATM. Using my daughter's laptop for school to test things out till I'm sure about the setup, and she's got it at the moment so I can't check specifically what drivers they are, if you're asking. I'll give it a look later.

I've entertained this idea already, actually, but I wanted to start on the assumption that I'm the problem, hahah. Given that's a very viable possibility, what should I be looking for, model/manufacturer-wise? Any recommends?

Just watched some vids and reading comments on that USB to MIDI unit and seems like its about 50/50 chance on getting a working one. So you probably have a bad one.
