  • Roland TD-30 settings Help!

Hello, Well, my new E-kit has arrived and I am in the process of getting things set up correctly.
    Roland TD-30 Module- Jobeky Drums
I am having a couple of issues.
Issue 1 - I am getting repeat triggering when my bass pedal rebounds and taps the head lightly (Might be bad technique?) There is a setting in the TD-30 that is supposed to correct this issue. Mask Time. I have this set at the highest setting, and this is still a significant issue for me. Is there another solution?
Issue 2 - My snare drum rim only triggers for cross stick or rim shots in certain areas. In other words, there seems to be dead spots on the rim, however the locations seem to be random and changing. Is there a setting that can correct this issue, or is this most likely an issue with the trigger its self?
Any help from you experienced TD-30 guys would be gratly appreciated!
I will post pics of the new kit when I get a chance!

For the snare drum make sure you have the correct trigger selected that matches the model of you snare. Also check that the cables are fully connected. When I got my first TD30, I had a similar problem and Sweetwater replaced the entire kit.

As for the kick, that could be a combination of technique and settings. I also had similar issues and, while many here will caution you, I loosened the tension on the head. (Tightness is somewhat relative). and, using a patch on the head I'm using the felt beater. The concerns with loosening the tension is damage to the foam cone in the drum and having the felt destroy the head.

I tend to sit with my feet pointing out so it also helps to have the kick and hi hat pedals set so you feet are at their most natural angle and position.

    Good luck.

Kick drum settings to help eliminate retriggering:

retrigger cancel: try between 9 - 12 on the kick
note - don't set it high enough to interfere with super fast double bass or double strokes.

threshold: might need to raise this to silence those very light unwanted double taps.
note - setting too high will cut out the lower end of your dynamics (softer strikes).

Other settings that helped for me: slightly tightened pedal springs and/or beaters slightly further back, and applying a beater patch.

Thanks for the info! Cant really match the model of my snare since it is not a roland snare. Jobeky gave me a couple of settings to try, I will check them out tonight.

Another issue that I came across is the fact that i have an extra tom that i have plugged into the Aux inputs. When I first played the tom, it was a splash cymbal. I went into the band and assigned a PD 128 to the trigger. It then was a tom. ( for that kit). If i switched to another kit, it was a splash cymbal again. I thought that when i set it as a tom in the bank that it would be a global sett

            Hi,

a few suggestions. Check/change your pad assignements in the trigger bank, p. 126 in the manual. Check senstivity (and adjust trigger levels if necessary) as seen on p. 127, while hitting different pads. Check for crosstalk, p. 131. Also glancing through the trouble shooting section doesn't hurt and sometimes even helps ;-)

            Success, Michael

To change the instrument for a trigger pad I don't mess with trigger settings, just go into "Instrument" and select the cymbal or drum you want.
I'm pretty sure your pad assignments (bank?) should match the physical pad type, regardless what instrument voice you assign to it.
