  • Calling Any FBT Amico Owners To Compare Notes...

Hi All, just bought an FBT Amico 900 (pre-owned) - the older 900 watt version with the basic stereo inputs & 3 band e.q. (No mixer)

First impressions are it makes quite a thump, maybe even needs the bass backing off a little. It seems to go pretty loud on music playback from a CD but if I crank it up on the kick drum (TD15) the sub starts to cut out, then comes back on (satellites no problem). I haven't seen any of the limit LEDs on the rear come on so I'm wondering am I pushing it too hard / expecting too much or have I bought a dudd? There's no distortion or bangs, crackles or hum etc so I'm thinking it's actually shutting down as in "protect mode" or similar....

So.... anybody else experience this please? What happens to your sub when you crank up the kick?

    Thanks,

    Baz

Hey bidbadbazza - I don't have an Amico, but I do use an FBT Maxx 6a as a drum monitor. It has 900 watts total with 700 watts going to the 15" and 200 watts going to the highs. The thing has always been loud and clear. Rock solid. Best drum monitor I've ever used. Sorry I can't help with your specific question.

Hi Slobberdog, thanks for taking the time to reply.... I've taken a look at the FBT website & the 6A appears to be 400 + 100 whereas the 60A is 700 + 200 - but also 30Kgs!!!

I already have a ProMaxx 14A with the custom 14" woofer & the TD15 even when maxed out on all levels won't make the limit/peak LED come on. It's 600 + 300 but on close inspection of the specs that's only for 2 milli seconds :-) The joys of "specmanship" - lol I used to have an RCF 525 (700 + 250) but it only sounded good at 10 feet plus, so as a floor monitor for me it wasn't so good... I think it's time to go audition some active cabs & see what I fancy.

I have downsized the kit from a TD12 with 4 cymbals to a TD15 with smaller rack & 3 cymbals & just the 14A or the Amico & hoping to manage with just the one cab OR two if I have to (stereo is nice too :-) as I'm getting too old for all that humping around of gear - lol. NB - I'm in Shropshire in the UK so if anyone is close enough to get together for a sound equipment check then I'm ll ears - the old "you show me yours etc" :-) Always handy to see what others are using & happy with..... Cheers for now!

Update..... so here I am a few weeks on with playing with the Amico..... I've stripped it down & checked it out, electronics etc all looking both original & good. One satellite 6.5" driver has been changed for a cheapo ferrite jobbie :-( so I have a new Neo one on order, which will hopefully centre the balance (one speaker is louder than the other at the moment) Also, I wondered if the 15" B&C was ok? So I had that out too & checked the flexible wire from the cone to the terminals in case it was cutting out at full movement... which may have explained what I was experiencing. Cleaned the cabinet & put it all back together & it seems much better to me!

So.... either I've disturbed something or I was, indeed pushing it too hard.... Once I get the new 6.5" driver received & fitted I'll give it a blast.... It's great to have stereo rather than just a single cab - just not sure I can cope with the 40Kgs in & out of the car :-) Having said that it gives the loudest Kick sound of any system I have owned, including RCF & the FBT 14A so maybe I'm on to a winner? :-) Cheers, Baz
