Particularly fast double bass, get's muddy when playing with music. Soloing is not a problem. Keep in mind so far I've only played with tracks through the module itself, not a live band. My question is could this be because the drums and music is all coming from the same source, the module? Or maybe because I'm listening to it all through the headset?
Or do I actually have a settings issue, compression maybe?

    Mixing tracks is an art.

I suggest watching some YouTube videos to get a feel.

I'm just guessing here (I would need to hear what your mixing) that the bass drum sample you picked on the TD30 doesn't have enough snap in the higher mids.

Those Roland samples are extremely sub bass favored imo. A real bass drum has lots of higher frequency noise too, that makes up most of the attack. A mostly sub bass kick drum sounds great on it's own, but is quickly clouded once you give any pair of speakers other transients to play at the same time.

I believe that's probably spot on. After some tweaking the instrument values, EQ and ambiance I'm getting more clarity. I find it difficult to find just the right freq in the higher ranges because it usually sounds more annoying than anything (on the bass drum).
