  • Yamaha owners. get the PHX kit.

We are always reading about new VEX kits, and offerings for Roland modules, but finally, something comes along for Yamaha users! A model of their PHX kit.

Read about it at digital drummer and decided to get it for fun... (go to the News section in dD and get the code to download the kit for free)

If you like booming toms, this one will not disappoint! And the kick is nice and phat!

Pretty cool addition to the module... and free with the code!

Get it here (if you have a DTX700 or 900 module).

I have one regret about this PHX kit: they only sampled 3 toms. And I have 4!

Not sure if DTX700 owners know about this, but there are two programs for the module - equivalent to VDrumLib. Using DTX Librarian, it was really easy to load the new kit. Check it out: http://www.jmelas.gr/dtx/index.php
There's a trial version there too.

Made my 4th tom from the 3rd, lower pitched.

I was studying the hits from my module, and what I found is that there are 4 sample for the snare, and 3 samples for each toms.
The samples are split into velocities.

For example, on the snare side, velocities from 1 to 35% are sample 1, 35 to 60% sample 2, 60 to 85% sample 3 and up to 100% on sample 4.
Each sample is volume dependent on the hit. So, the 1 to 35% using sample 1 has a volume of 1 to 35%, and so on...

This kit is so much much that I've put aside SD2 for a while and played with the PHX only!

I love this kit too on my DTX950k, but the ride cymbal is really loud compared to the other cymbal samples. I seem to have to edit it as soon as I load up the kit, I can't get my modified version to save to my USB and reload.

The code does not seem to work anymore :-( Getting message that the coupon code is not valid.

Also can't download the Pop Rock kit. The site says it's free for registered users, but does not show where to download it from. Any help would be very appreciated.

Yep, coupons don't work anymore.... I guess it was a timed offer. Sorry!
