UPS is a battery backup/surge protector.

Technically, the name UPS stands for: Uninterruptible Power Supply.

        And, 300 VA stands for:
        300 volt-amps.

You guys need UPS's for your Sound modules? I have a TD7 and don't use UPS's.... What more the power supply in Malaysia is much more irregular than in the USA, and I don't seem to be having problems?? Any of you guys have problems when NOT using UPS's? Can this damage the module?

I havent had any problems with my module, BUT, two months ago we had a power outage and I lost a $700 Sony television. Sort of scary huh? All I have for my module is a surge protector and the sense to unplug it during storms (when I'm home). Wish I had the sense to unplug that television. Sure was hard to toss it in the dumpster. I'm seriously thinking about picking up a ups myself.

I did open the Sony up and check it out. The little buss fuse was blown but there were alot of other components toasted also. Jumped right across that little fuse.

Nobody NEEDS a UPS unit, but they're nice to have because not only do they provide surge protection and power outage protection, but they also have models available with voltage regulators, something that might be useful in Malasia where the power is "much more irregular" than here.

Here in the states, you'll find that voltage depends more on house to house, the older the house, the more likely there are to be inconsistencies. Some UPS models have a feature that detects inconsistencies in the line, which is nice.

I don't currently own one for home use (we have several high-powered ones at work), but if I did, I'd be more prone to use it on my computer setup than on my TD-10.
At the end of the day, it's more money, more trouble, and more time to replace my computer than it would be to replace a TD-10 module.

However, when I muster up enough free cash to get one for my TD-10, I would juat make sure that it has voltage regulation (some of the lower priced models don't offer this), but not go too crazy beyond that. I'm sure a 300 VA UPS would be fine, depending on how long you feel like playing after the lights go out....

Yeah, I never had any problems with spikes or irregular power supply altho my cheap 7 channel power mixer may need them quite badly. Thanks for your feedback.
And I switch off the main power for my music equipment every time I am not using it.

That doesn't protect anything... My days as a computer tech are proof enough of that. After every big storm, dozens of people would bring their PCs in saying, "My modem doesn't get a dial tone..."

It was my job to tell them it was fried to a crisp (even thought it was turned off) and that unless you unplug the power cord (and the phone cord) you are in danger of lightning damage. Then I pointed them to our selection of modems.
