  • Mounting Yamaha DTX502 to Stand

    Hello,
I just received a Yamaha DTX502 module. I am going to replace my current DTX 2.0.

Right now everything is on a rack. Taking off the 2.0 module mounting hardware, I see I can just drill two new holes and mount the new DTX502 the same way.

However, I want to switch the electronic pads to acoustics on stands with triggers.

I know Yamaha has some mounting system to connect the DTX502 module to the hi hat, but I don't want to do that. I would rather the module not have the continuous shock from hitting the hi hat.

Does anyone know the best way to attach the Yamaha DTX502 module to it's own stand?

    Thanks for your help.

I mount my TD-12 on it's own stand. The cheapest way is to purchase a used HH stand and take apart everything above the Lower Tube. Hack off the pedal, chain, etc. The mounting bracket fits into the opening in the lower tube and you can tighten it.

Actually, that's more work than you need to do. I did it only because I had an ancient HH stand lying around that wasn't worth selling and that I'd never use. You can get any tripod, cymbal boom stand, remove the parts above the lower tube and get the same results. I see these on ebay for around $30.

      Grog,
Thanks for the information. I actually thought about doing that, but I didn't know if there would be a way to tighten it after putting the mount onto the stand. I guess I could always drill a hole and put a screw in it.

I have an old (about thirty years) Ludwig hi hat stand I was thinking of using for a new RH135 hi hat pad, but I'm not sure how functional it is and it might serve this purpose better.

      Thanks again.

"some mounting system to connect the DTX502 module to the hi hat" - nothing clever it's just the module mount and a standard universal clamp.

The module mount is somewhat annoying, as unlike all other Yammy and Roland modules, it's not a four-hole mount. It's this: http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225...DlmSdJBEng.jpg

You then use a multiclamp to clamp the module mount to *any* stand. e.g. Yamaha CSAT924A or Pearl AX whatever.

Yes, it only has the two holes. That's why I was going to drill two new holes into the hardware attached to the rack for now and screw it in that way.

I was looking at this option as well and was thinking of the Gibraltar sc-pugc with a separate stand.

Doesn't the 502 have the mounting bracket? I'm not sure why you need to use another one unless it didn't come with one.

I suggest you use the Yamaha mount, and take it to a store like GC, and simply find a used cymbal stand that has a tier that will fit the mount. You are not going to hit the module, so the stand could be lightweight and even flush base.

To mount my 700, I used a cheap cymbal stand, the tube part of the module mount fits into the lower tube. Used the clamp of the lower tube to secure the module.

                  Grog,
Yes the 502 came with a mounting bracket but it wasn't the same size as the one for the 2.0 and the module was spinning around. I drilled one hole, not two because I didn't need it to line up directly in the center, and used one of the four holes already there and was able to attach the mount to the module.

This is only temporary as I'm using the module on the old rack. Eventually when I figure out how to get everything set up correctly on the acoustics with the triggers, I'll lose the rack, get stands and get a stand for the module.

                    Vectron,
Yes, thanks for the advice. I'm actually going to need three lower stands if I can find them to attach the cymbal stands that are on the rack to.
I have $30 in credit at the local drum store, so hopefully they have some stands lying around.
