  • Tama Iron Cobra links?

    Hello internets!

I just came in contact with a dude selling a used Tama Iron Cobra double pedal, older model. It doesn't look too fancy anymore with a bit of wearing of the black on the playing surface, but apparently the 2 pedals works without any problem. BUT(!) there's no link to connect the two pedals so I was wondering: Is it usually the same kind of link for most types of double pedals? If not, is it the same kind of link as it is on the newer Iron Cobras?
If I could get a new link cheap or use the one from my cheap double pedal then this is a sweet deal, about $40 for 2 Iron Cobra pedals with dual-chain drive.

I'll throw in the add for them here aswell, even though it is in Swedish there's still a picture, bad quality picture, but still!

Does this look like what it needs?

    Mini-kit: TD-9 + Alesis Control Pad + Alesis Sample Pad + PDX-6 snare
Micro-kit: Handsonic HPD-20 + an old pair of hands.
Speakers: QSC-K10 "thumper", DBR-10 "little thumper"

Do you know what kind of thing the rod connects to on each pedal? Because on the old double pedal I have laying around somewhere it's kind of like a half-circular metal rod that the beaters are attached to and that the connection rod attaches to, if you know what I mean, kinda tricky to explain.

You could go into a GC and look at different brands, I have no idea if double pedals use common connecting HW. I would tend to doubt it actually.
Still $150 total is quite a bit less than new.

True, too bad there aren't all the stores that sell instruments and such here in Sweden are either online shopping only or too far away. But looking at that 2nd picture on that eBay auction it does look like it could be the same type of connection. Now if I could just find that old pedal somewhere...

I'm confused by the OP. Are they two separate pedals that have NEVER been connected? Does the owner say he bought them that way, or took them apart to put on two separate bass drums? You will clearly be able to tell if the main "master" pedal has the right linkage and connectors to accept a "slave" pedal. On my older Tama Iron Cobra model, when one pedal broke I was unable to fit a newer pedal onto it, there were no connectors since they changed the design. I had to buy a new (used) double pedal set up and kept my old "master" pedal as a stand alone single for backup purposes.

It's a real double pedal, master and slave that's been taken apart to be used as 2 different pedals at some point and then the connector must have gotten lost somewhere along the line. I'll ask the dude for some better pictures of the pedal. especially the part where the connector goes so that I can get a better view of what design it has.
Hopefully I can find some connector for it, no use in buying it otherwise since I already have a single pedal and only one bassdrum :P

If all you need is the connector it should NOT cost more than the pedals, that's ridiculous.

Yeah that's what I was thinking! Gonna do a search for that old double pedal tomorrow and hopefully I'll find it and the connector match. The seller is going to send me some pictures tomorrow.
I'm not too keen on paying twice the price of the pedals themselves for the connector, and then shipping on top of that.

I would walk away from this deal for different reasons entirely.

So the boards look very worn - now think about the bearings and the play in the hammers, things you can't see in a picture.

Lots of sellers will say it "works without any problem". Of course it does... poorly. I estimate not only will you have to buy the connecting bar, but also new bearings, probably new springs and new hammers + re-milling the arm joints. It's really not worth it in the slightest.

Well I didn't hear anything from the seller anyways so it's his loss really.
Maybe I should buy myself a pair of nice Kriggs, although that high-pitch click from them would most likely annoy me, even though they're probably more quiet than a regular A2E bassdrum..

I got my Iron Cobra Power Glide Pedals in 2006. The link is a telescopic unit and the rods to the pedals are a hexagon section.
