Uh oh! The forum software screwed up again. More than half of this thread is gone! All the posts with audio samples of my acoustic and electronic kit are gone, and the friendly conversation between BWaj and I is gone, too. The forum software on this site is really becoming a liability. It's hard enough to make posts of any complexity (text with pictures, diagrams, sound clips, videos, etc.), but then the software loses them. PITA, to say the least! Makes me not want to take the time to post anything substantial. Seriously, I think this forum should consider replacing its forum software; the bugs in the current software seem too great to contain.

Alan, this is the worst responding forum I've ever seen in my life. It's always lagging, times out, takes forever for posts to go through, etc. Maybe you need to be less sensitive about the criticism, because almost everyone has suggested you change platforms at some point. I appreciate the work you put into the site, but I spend half as much time here because the performance it terrible. It is absolutely the forums fault, I have no issue anywhere else online. Just being honest.TD50 Digital Pack, TD30 and TD9 Modules, custom made pads, Gen16 crashes, and hats plus a few other things that I'm not sure what to do with or why they're still in my kit. So, are you guys telling me the above link to another thread is not what Tang was talking about? If it is, then where is the problem? If it is not, then I will be glad to ask development to look into this. However, seeing as I read nearly every post, and follow nearly everything going on, and cannot see anything missing, I will assume Tang got the two threads mixed... and you just jumped in without a true issue to report.Alan

I use multiple platforms, browsers and OSs with this forum almost daily as a constant ongoing test of the forum's performance. While I do agree that the current vB5 version is not as fast as the previous versions due to the difference in how it works now, I have not had any issues in several months now. I've actually had no lagging for a few versions now. Additionally, I have about 2-3 of their developers using our site for their development to improve vB overall. So, we actually are getting upgrades before anyone else does. You and I have had this similar talk quite a few times; yet, I have no others speaking of such issues you mention. Therefore, your particular issue must be something on your end.

Alan VEX,
Yes, you are correct. I mixed up the two threads. Sorry about that.
Regarding my comments on the forum software, the fact the software is so flaky (ever tried to make a post with pictures and/or sound clips - what a hassle), caused me to think part of the thread had been deleted. Even when composing posts with nothing but text, I frequently get erroneous error messages from the software. The site administrators themselves (you and others) have mentioned how frustrating it is to use the software - posts disappear, items mistakenly deleted, etc. This site is notably a HUGE PITA, both to post and to read, compared to other sites I participate in. Just the fact that when you make a post it often doesn't show up in the main page of its sub-forum for several minutes and sometimes doesn't show up where you posted it either... is, well... rather vexing! And, the navigation tools, especially on mobile, are horrible. The numbered "spinner" thingy doesn't work and this means one has to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to get to the numbered tabs. Why aren't the tabs at the top of the page, too, as they are on other sites? It's things like this, on top of the bugs, that make this site a chore to read. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate that V-Drums.com is here and I realize what a big job it is to run a site like this. But, that said, there is no question the current forum software leaves *A LOT* to be desired.
Thank you for pointing me to the correct thread. Much appreciated.

As I stated in a recent post, we had development use our site to improve page population times recently. New posts and topics will now populate their respective pages in 60 seconds or less. In most cases, it is immediately, but the database updates the home page every 60 seconds. Other issues regarding missing posts in searches were remedied with this change as well. Again, the only reason we are on the new version of vB is because our data got fried into an unusable mess with a bad update in version 4. A table conversion froze on our old host that rendered the site inoperable. At the time, moving up to vB5 was our only option. We tried numerous times to fix the issue, but that issue had led to many others we continued to uncover. Long story short; yes, they are still tweaking some features, but we're lucky that we're one of the sites they go to first to do those repairs.Alan

Tang, I need a full description and example of the image/sound clips issue you experience. I need clarification on the issue(s). Are we talking about actual sound files, personal videos, or YT videos? When you experience the issue(s), what are the file types and sizes? This may possibly be just a setting that needs tweaking.Alan

Alan VEX,
I wasn't meaning to sound harsh or to "come down" on anyone. I apologize if my words came across stronger than intended. Regarding your request, I don't have time presently to type out the details, but I'll come back and do this. Thank you for asking. Just to give an idea, the key problems occur when there are attached images and/or sound files in a post. For example, if you've attached four files, insert them into the content, and change the presentation size of one, often an error occurs. Once that error happens, you're hooped. The only way the software will allow the post to be saved is if you remove *ALL* attached files, re-upload the files, and re-insert the files into your content. Similarly, if you do something as innocent as upload a fifth file (or maybe it's a sixth)... whatever number it is that goes over the invisible number of attachments limit (which isn't specified or warned by the software)... guess what? Another error occurs and... time to delete all your files and start over again! No matter what you do, the errors keep happening. The only solution that solves the problems is deleting all attachments and starting over. There are myriad errors that come up while composing a post with attachments that cause this same problem. It's very frustrating and time consuming, especially when trying to share DIY knowledge which almost always has attached files and files embedded in the post.

Changes made today that should improve mentioned matters...
1) added three known upload types: mp3, mp4, and wav. Each is limited to 10,000,000 bytes.
2) changed the "max attachments per post" from the default 5 to 20 for the home channel for each of the regular user groups, i.e. excluding "waiting email confirmation" and the like.Alan

Alan VEX,
Thank you immensely for making those changes. Very much appreciated. The next time I post a DIY thread, those changes are going to be very helpful. Again, thank you!
