  • Multiple Alesis Trigger I/O's

I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix this probably tiny problem.

I used to use 2 Alesis Trigger I/O's (big kit ) to feed the MIDI trigger inputs into two instances of ezDrummer running in the excellent little VSTHost program. The laptop that I used to do this on (running XP) has recently broke, so i've had to get a new one running Vista. And no matter what I do, I just can't get VSTHost to work with both Alesis I/Os. In MIDI-OX, both Alesis I/Os show input data when I whack a cymbal or something, and VSTHost identifies both Trigger I/Os, but for each seperate instance of ezDrummer, I go to set which MIDI input I want to use, and there's only one 'Trigger I/O' in the list!

I've tried lots of things, including setting each Trigger I/O to a different MIDI channel and filtering out all channels except the correct one for each instance of ezDrummer, but it just ignores one of the modules. If anyone has any ideas, or alternative programs that they know work with a multiple Trigger I/Os, i'd love to know. Thanks.

Sounds like a naming-convention problem where Vista isnt capable of handling 2 identical devices to me. I'm not sure how, but there may be a way to rename one (probably by digging into the registry) so both can be identified separately? I could, of course, be completely wrong! TBH, I wouldn't go digging until someone else dives in here to help! Have you tried contacting Alesis to see if anone else has reported this/if they have a work-around?

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling it might be something related to a naming convention problem like you mentioned, so i'm going to have a go at editing the 'FriendlyName' fields for the devices in the registry tommorow and see what happens. In the meantime i've posted this question on the Trigger IO Yahoo group and also to Alesis support, so i'll post any new useful information here.
