  • Joe Barresi's Glam kit quick pack

Just got it . Bought on a thursday night .. friday morning I had the tracking nunber already. Ordered directly from Platinum Samples website .. and everything went out without a problem.

What can I say? The drums sound really powerful, hi-hat has nice performance.. There are three processing options for snare and kick... and one can tweak the amt of fx applied to the drums through the ambience slider at the mixer or kit screens. The toms may sound too low for some .. but man that bottom end is nice. At this moment I just damped them a bit.. but what the heck I can have a damped preset.. and the standard one.
Kicks are a punch to the chest - the snare sounds really "full bodied" ...too good to be true.

At first I was surprised with the lack on dynamics... but went to their website and realized there were more velocity layers for snare 1 (almost 500Mb of them!!) and also for the kick ... articulations .... once I downloaded everything .. snare1 was ready for more delicate work.

Will try to post some recordings .... being to busy and not much left for fun :-)
    AAA+ for this pack !

    Thanks Pim,

In the presets you can also move the Vel to Rnd slider for the kit pieces all the way to 100% for more of the humanization in BFD2 to be applied. The preset default is 50%.

Sounds good Pim. It's interesting to note the similarities and differences between the Glam kit, and the Pork Pie kit in BFD2. I've got version 2.1.31 functioning very well and I've got my eye on Platinum Samples. Thing is, there will soon be sooooo much content released for 2.1, that I think I'll wait and see what shakes out. Thanks for sharing.

It does sound good. I am getting back into BFD after the Toontrack experience. I listened to EZ demos made by world class producers and they still have that weird thin drum sound. I think people will get tired of that soon.

Platinum samples is way ahead of them.

Thanks for the nice comments. You are right Relayer .. there is so much in the horizon for BFD... new Platinum samples pack .... Johm Emrich is working o something as well.... not long ago there was a youtube video.. on another pack ... Steven Slate is getting ready the DVDs for their beta testers . and soon will have it ready for BFD .. CHocolate audio .. as Joe K stated earlier .. very exciting time for VST drummers ( and I still dream with Ocean Way Drums .... a powerful Receptor .. from time to time :-) ) .

Peter W .. as I stated in another topic ... it is all about finding the right sounds for your ears..... keep moving .. let the bashing out the equation .. sometimes what does not work for us/sound good to our ears does not necessarily mean it is crap. I understand you set your message to Toontrack already ... there is a new release soon (1st quarter of 2009 if I am not mistaken) .. the instrument choices seem much more varied than the current one.

I like both: BFD for the variety .... Toontrack for the stability/playability what an engine !

My problems with BFD's engine seem much improved with the latest releases/updates and after I performed a disk defragmentation. I still have the irritating problem with the MIDI learn/screen that locks from time to time at the hi hat shank articulation ...

Still scratching the surface on these softwares.
The demo below I did using/recording on BFD2's in standalone mode through the grooves/pallete screen. Read the correspondent patt in the manual (hope they put a video out on this as they did other tutorials ) . I rendered the audio tracks .. put them into Tracktion 3 .. used a T-racks present for the kick and one of Tracktion's mastering tool .

You guys will notice a cymbal being cut .. do not know why it happened.. but will read through Fxpansion's forum to see if there is a way to prevent it. The cymbal just cut at rendering and not during recording ...

                  Here we go:

Sounds very nice . Snare and cymbals are excellent. The toms have alot of low end. The kick sounds to me like it could have a bit more low end relative to the toms. Is there a lot of compression on it or is that dry?

That's good news about the possibility of platinum samples for S2. When would something like that happen?
