You would be best to listen to each one and decide yourself as everybody has different tastes and opinions, They all have audio samples you can select on each one.

Funk has one of the best vst snares I've heard. Also crashes are great, hi hat and a ride is awesome.

Addictive Keys is pretty awesome, it makes a crappy keyboard sound like a expensive grand etc.

Tks for the heads up! Got Vintage Drummer and 50s.

Also went ahead and upgraded to Addictive 2 . In all honesty to my fellow friends that have Addictive and did not update yet: if you are not happy with the sounds of 1, upgrading to 2 might not change your mind. I got the upgrade with Fairfax vol. 1 - did not change at all what I think of the sounds... wasted 130 bucks ... Could have just demoed it :-(

I think Fairfax is higher quality than other AD libraries but there must be some kind of data compression going on. I was told by another developer years ago that AD is mp3's. That would explain the small file sizes for kits. The quality is adequate for a live PA but not for recording IMO.

I am guessing this AD2 debate is like playing tic-tac-toe...nobody will win. If people wants BFD..go a head and buy, But the argument that AD2 consist of a bunch of MP3's is totally wrong and misleading. You might be hearing some strange sounds on old ADPaks from AD1 when compressing them hard(based on the wave noise wash used on old ADPaks) but in AD2 and in new ADPaks this is not true. I was listening and comparing AD2 Fairfax with a demo of BFD...and I can't really hear any big difference in sound quality through my studio monitors.

As you might know XLN/AD2 is owned by the producer Max Martin and he uses AD2 and Addictive Keys only in all his productions) so the argument that it could only be used for PA and Live situations sounds very weak to me...especially when Max is on the US Top charts all the time...

But, I could be old and have ear problems...and don't hear as good as you guys...but I am guessing a lot of people out there listens with their eyes.

It is pretty easy. I just checked and my AD Black Velvet kit is around 550 mb.The ohters are around the same. My BFD modern retro Sonor is 7.5 gb. Most other sample library kits that are high quality are in the GB's. AD has to be using data compression which would explain why the sounds are so thin in mixes. Note the AD presets have a lot of compression,EQ and distortion ,more than most other VST's. Turn all of that off and you will hear how thin it sounds.

I can't find any final production that Max Martin has used AD on. He is an investor in the company. He is more known as a song writer and may use it for the demos. He is doing very high budget work and it looks like sometimes it is 808 sounds and sometimes live drums.

That is why I think AD is great for live. The kits are 15 times smaller than other brands and take very little resources. The new tape plug in in AD2 helps fill out the sound alot.
