  • Running 2 hi hats thru midi?

Hey guys heres my setup: im running a td-20 kit maxed out(all inputs full) so i attached my tmc-6 thru midi. I have my vh-12 setup standard into the td20, i have a vh-11 with remote pedal running into inputs 5&6 on the tmc-6 with input 6 selected to pedal control. So far all i have been able to do is select different sounds for various positions on the vh-11 but not get cc control of the pedal. Is this possible? Thanks

Searching around I think I found the problem.

      TMC-6 doesn't support VH-11, FD-7/8 only:

      Mini-kit: TD-9 + Alesis Control Pad + Alesis Sample Pad + PDX-6 snare
Micro-kit: Handsonic HPD-20 + an old pair of hands.
Speakers: QSC-K10 "thumper", DBR-10 "little thumper"

Incorrect, VH-11 is compatible with the TMC-6. Regardless of what that chart indicates. Others are using VH-11/TMC-6 successfully. Functionality is the same as an FD-7/8:

Ive been able to use the vh-11 with the tmc-6 in the past fairly well. Used it to trigger a small kit into superior drummer at one time. I had about as much control of the vh-11 with the tmc-6 as i did with my old td-10. The problem im having is that i use a td-20 module now and have all the inputs full. (Running a vh-12 on the td20) So im using my vh-11 into the tmc-6 along with a splash. The tmc-6 just triggers the percussion section of the td-20 but your able to select whatever sound you would like. Splash works fine and the open hi hat of the vh-11 works fine too. It detects my dw9000 remote and i can assign a sound to it but it wont function with variable cc and effect the vh-11's sound. So basically when i close the vh-11 i get the same open sound but i can assign the click of the pedal to be a clap or something. If there was a closed hi hat sound that was selectable as an instrument in the td-20 i could get by with that but i havent found one. Surely im not the first person to run 2 hi hats on a vdrum kit??

I used 2 Hi Hats with the TD-20 when I had it. But never with a TMC-6. If you assign a Hi Hat sound on another pad/cymbal of the TD-20 you can control the second Hi Hat sound from the VH-12 HH you already have. Or if you only want a fixed HH sound on the other pad/cymbal you can set the 2nd HH sound at any of the Fixed HH positions. You wouldn't need the VH-11 controller just another pad or cymbal.

So unless someone has another solution, to me it seems like it may be easier for you to do both your Hi Hat sounds on the TD-20 and use the TMC-6 for the splash and something else.

I always had 2 modules, so at times I just used the HH inputs from both modules, but like I mentioned above, I have done 2 HH sounds controlled by the same module/HH controller too.

Thanks jman for the help. I appreciate it. I think ill move a cymbal over to the tmc-6 and bring the vh-11 into the td20 like u suggested and play around with both options. Ill report back with my results.
