  • FD-8 hi hat pedal with DTX modules?

Hi guys, forgive me if this has been asked before (yes I did UTFSE ) but is it possible to use an FD-8 as a hi hat controller with a DTX Multi-12? Does the module transmit pedal position as a CC value or do Yammie do it another way? I need your wisdom!

    Doesn't work, I'm afraid...

Roland and Yamaha both use 'variable controller' pedals for their modules. But they are NOT interchangeable, because the Roland controllers have reversed polarity, I believe.

Just for the sake of completeness:
Alesis modules (the lower-end units, anyway) use a non-variable, 'switch controller' pedal for their hihat.
2Box has its own optical, proprietary hihat system, which uses a hall effects sensor and a magnet.

Thank you!! That's very interesting about the 2box, I'll have to look into that! As for the FD-8, does that mean that if I wire up a cable in reverse then it will work? Any idea how the Yamaha works with the hi hat MIDI-wise?

I never really thought about this... a 'polarity-converter'-box! - Could work ...certainly sounds interesting.
You should ask Jman about this - maybe he can brew something up like this!
