A laptop mic socket is not ideal for recording V-drums, but you may be able to lower the input gain to avoid distortion:

    Question: Recording to laptop?

    Laptop for video recording?

started a topic Reaper Background Noise

    Reaper Background Noise

Hey all, just wondered if you could help me. I've just started recording with my TD3, and am using Reaper. I have run a cable from my headphone jack to the mic socket on my laptop. I'm not very technical lol so please bare with me!
I started recording, and sometimes, not all the way through the song, when I play the bass drum, it sounds as if you are hitting a microphone with your hand. It sounds like I am recording my drums through a very bad mic. Obviously I'm not doing this, and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions to help stop this noise.

    Thanks
