  • Fixing latency problems in Vista

I stumbled across a big fix in Vista that I helped a great deal.

    in System/Advanced/data execution prevention
click on Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:

    add
navigate to you vst sequencer programs and add them to the list

After I did this plus set Adjust for best performance of: Background services I am able to set latency at 2ms and buffers to 64 in Cubase with no popping or other artifacts playing Karneveil 9 by ELP which is a very dense sequence using Superior 2.0 full kit and Edirol Hyper Canvas.

these pc's should just make drumsounds not popping sounds.

Oh cool, there's a lot of usefull tips there. I realised after my last trip to XP land when it wouldn't recognize all 4gig of memory that it's time to move on. I like Vista and since performance has improved with updates and just learning what it takes to get what I want using it, there's no reason to go back. XP is a little clunky and old, fast but old.

I've been slowly going though that site myself speeding up my desktop. I don't have any latency problems with my PC, even running full out on the vista graphics but getting some stress off the CPU is never a bad thing to do...
