  • Is there an application which will turn MIDI into sheet music?

I am currently taking lessons and sometimes it feels like my head it going to explode with everything i have learned as each week I learn something new and I am afraid I am going to forget something.. I am trying to find a way to 'document' each bit of what I have learned and have come up with my own form of notation, which probably only makes sense to me.. And to be honest, my notation only worked when everything was "on beat".. now that I am working on independance, its not so easy to write down..

But i just wondered if there is any MIDI software available which could capture some music and turn it into a form which can be read.. Perhaps even sheet music?

    Does anything like this exisit?

    Hey,

I'm confused a little by your question...I'm probably not reading it the way you intended..

...are you trying to convert what you play into sheet music or are you trying to convert a "passage" of a song into sheet music...?

Almost certainly the way I posed the question (probably caused by a few too many beers )

What I want to do is go to a lesson.. come back, practice what I have been taught. And then with my PC connected, capture a 'good' or 'clean' beat usig MIDI and have the software turn this into sheet music.

This will not only help me fully learn how to read sheet music, but will also give me somethign to look back on when I forget.

Of course, I could just capture straight to MIDI and then play it back at a later date, but this will only show me how it sounds, and not how to play it...

      Does this make sense?

Perhaps make a video of you playing...so both sound and action?

I'm pretty sure that there is some sort of software available to do this but I don't know what it is. Have you tried googling it?
Roland Td-11KV, Alesis SamplePad, DW5000 pedal, Vater 7A sticks.

TabTrax for $29.95 can apparently import MIDI files and convert to standard drum notation. It's used by a few members here and if you search this forum for "TabTrax" you'll see it has been discussed briefly several times over the last four years.

              Thanks Bruce,

That looks to be exactly what I want.. I did a bit of a google search last night and found loads of MIDI->MUSIC converters.. But they were all based aroud 'music' and not 'drums'.

This might be exactly what I am looking for.. If not, I might go down the route of video as Eric_B suggested.

              Thanks all

Is there a way to do this with Guitar pro?

I am doing GCSE Music and need to write down some drum notation to hand in with my composition. Guitar Pro deals with MIDI so I guess there must be some sort of way.

Probably: Drum Notation - MID Input
