  • Custom Sounds on TD-20

I'm a new VDrums user. I've searched and searched, but can't seem to find how to take a .wav file and use it as a sound on my vdrums ( TD-20 module ).

Also, if anyone could recommend any good URLs for a newb like me, it would be appreciated.

    Hi and welcome.

Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to import sounds into any TD series module. Oh, and you've already found the best place on the web for a V-Drum noob like yourself, happy reading!

Hi swoodyard. Welcome to the site.

The module (TD-20) is not capable of accepting wav files. However, this does not mean you could not "trigger" one from an external source. Have you considered a SPD-S hooked via midi?

What type of wavs are you looking to add/use?

I'll pipe in with my standard recommendation for the Roland SP404 sampler. Small, portable, battery power option, onboard speaker, flash card interface, inexpensive, trigger by MIDI or by pressing one of 12 buttons, onboard effects. Pretty cool package.

Since I'm new to VDRUMS, I haven't looked at any commercial sample libraries or found any free sources, so I was going to start out by taking some movie sound samples ( i.e. lightsaber sounds ) for fun so I could learn how to do it.

Sounds like I need to invest some more $ though.

What do you plan to load and trigger them on?

Just punched in "free sound sample downloads" and lots came up, heard some and they are ok, i have Ableton lite, paid $5 off Ebay, also i have an edirol ua20 midi interface (£50 off Ebay) midi cable a few dollars, load up the free samples into ableton and trigger from the kit ...

You could trigger from one of these for just over £100, clamp it on the rack and have a ball ...

I went to www.vexpressionsltd.com, and I noticed there are libraries for the td-20. How is that possible if you can't load custom sounds? Or does it require that you also have a piece of hardware like some of the other posts on this threads are suggesting?

                    Vex pack

VExpressions are based on sounds and drum samples that already reside in the Roland module but these are expertly tweaked and set by sound experts who have spent gazillions of hours modelling custom drum kits, these are then sold in packs and presented as sysex files that can be quickly loaded up with all those programmed parameters to our modules via a midi cable and librarian software (these kits are superb)

There is a general midi sound set in the Roland module that can be used, ie bass, keys, synth, some special effect sounds etc these can be recorded using a midi keyboard and recorded as songs in the module and triggered from the kit pads.

Otherwise you would need to use a dedicated sample pc software package or hardware sampler like the spd-s and trigger outside the module.

Depends what you want to do? what are your exact aims? what do u want to hear?
