  • Roland Cymbal Question

I recently purchased a new Roland TD-17KVX. Right out of the box I was having issues with one of the CY12C and the CY13R cymbal pads. Basically all of the hits were triggering the bow sound even edge hits and the choke feature wasn’t working. I tried adjusting the angle and tightness of the cymbals but nothing was working. I also moved the pads around to different inputs and established it was a pad issue and not a cable issue. I was playing the other day and randomly the edge trigger and choke started working. The choke still requires noticeably more force to register than my hi hat and the other CY12C and my VH10 hi hat though.

Is it normal for these cymbal pads to require a “break in” period like this? Or should I be concerned and try to get these replaced?

No, the cymbal edge switches are not working properly. Send them back.
