  • Yamaha EAD10 mute mic on BD

    Hi all,

Anyone know if it’s possible to mute the Mic on the Bass Drum so you can just hear the trigger sound only? But... I need to use the mic for the cymbals so I would only want to mute it on the BD only via the main trigger unit.

The reason is that I am using the EAD on a mesh kit with silent cymbals and it works great with the latest update. The only issue is that the natural sound of the kick on the mesh pads is affecting the BD sound, so I’d rather just hear the trigger. But obvs need the Mic for the cymbals.

    Hope that makes sense,

    Thanks in advance
    G

There is no way to tell a mic what to pick up and what to ignore. If a sound is in range, the mic will capture it. Thus it is not possible to do what you’re hoping for with the EAD mic.

Ok thank you. I wondered if there was some kind of routing so you could separate the Mic from the BD. I’ll just push the MIC level down a little so I can still pick up the cymbals. Thank you

can you disconnect the MIC from your kick drum ? and mount on stand or something just need to pick up the cymbals/hihat only, and use separate triggers to pick up bass drum, snare and toms

That’s a good question. No reason why you couldn’t, provided that there’s a workable way to mount it.

I’m using the EAD to record some acoustic demos right now and the question of placement has been on my mind, so Gazzil, if you experiment with tivi’s suggestion, please let us know how it goes!
