  • Keyboard sustain pedal for drum trigger

Hi just want to know if a keyboard sustain pedal would work as a drum trigger, for toms or snare not necessarily a hi hat pedal. I just want to step on it and trigger a snare. Something like this

    OR THIS

    Cheers

Probably not, but it all depends on the module or trigger to MIDI interface; for an Alesis Trigger iO the answer would be yes because its inputs can be set to use a switch. But because a sustain pedal is just an on/off switch, even if it does work with a particular module or TMI you would only get a single velocity and resulting single volume level; no dynamics.

I see. Thanks mate. Do you have any other ideas? Maybe putting a piezo under the pedal? Cheers

Take a look at the TapKAT pedal from KAT (last item on the page)

I have one--it only triggers at one velocity but it does the job.

Thanks guys. That tapkat pedal, is it using a switch or piezo for a trigger? I'm not to fussed on velocity so would a keyboard sustain pedal work in this situation? I am using a rockband bass pedal through a alesis dm5 at the moment for a pedal snare and I think it is switch not piezo. Cheers
