  • Help on DIY Project

Hi, I could really do with some advice on the next step in my Project.
My drums are now constructed and ready to take the electronics, cones and heads and this is my problem.
What kind of foam should the cones be made from. What I am after is not a make of foam to get hold of, I am based in the UK so not all products that some of you guys recommend are available. What I am trying to understand is how firm, soft the foam should be. Can anyone offer some univeral comparison as to what the foam should be like?
If the foam needed is very firm would alternatives like cork also work or even Polystyrene (styrofoam).

cork would be too hard same for styrofoam. also the foam needed must have a high memory value so that it does not take a set from being compressed.
the Poron foam used is a fast recovery, memory foam, approx 30 lbs per cubic foot.

if the foam rebounds from compression slowly, it won't make a good quality cone. I can tell you that the foam that is used in automotive repair as a sand paper backing does not work well after about a month.

Check out this guy in Canada, he shipped to me in the USA:
