Need advice for mesh heads...

For awhile I have been just playing on the standard heads that came with the drums originally(pics below). This is my first kit that I have made myself. I'm wondering, should I just break down and throw some money into so roland mesh heads so that they will last longer...or will they last longer and be worth it? They are all 8 inch drums except for the bass which is a 12 incher. I'm going to get mesh heads either way I was just wondering what is the best for a DIY.

I would build my own but 1. I don't realy have the time at the moment and don't want to worry about trial and error and 2. I don't think I'm crafty enough to do THAT myself...

That's a very nice looking kit. I am not an A drummer but if those things play as well as they look why bother?

How do those cubes work?
On the mesh saga, there are lots of alternatives to Rolands, depending where you are. In the US, try ufodrums (he's a member here), in the UK, try Jobeky Drums.

The cubes work fine. I really only used then because I didn't have a way to make clean looking cones. I don't have much of a problem with them. I got my piezos from ufodrums. I didn't see heads there but that was about six months ago.

DIY mesh heads are my preference (next to Roland heads, of course). I built my own for about $1 each and they trigger as well as Hart Magnums, not to mention last as long.

FWIW Roland heads last forever if not abused...Mitchman (ufo) used to sell used Roland heads.

Yeah I see that he's got a little heat going from roland...I just don't know where to start with making my own. I would just be upset if I wasted money and I couldn't do it. I'm sure I'm going to try some day but at the moment I just don't think that I want to deal with it.

Here's my take. You will never regret owning the Roland heads. I agree with Boogiesbad as to their durability. The little extra you will spend on them will be forgotten quickly enough. Also, they are more opaque than other heads I have seen, so will better hide the components in you drums.

Maybe I'm missing something...I thought I could find roland heads on sites like musicians friend for 8 inch heads....I can't seem to find any. Can anyone let me know where I can find some?
