  • Very Cheap Drum Pad Design (PD-8ish)

I thought its about time i started posting more of my DIY drum designs as a long time has passed since i posted my hihat and cowbell designs

This design is an incredibly cheap basic pad that triggers pretty well and cost me about £5

all it is, is a circle of 6mm mdf with two mousemats attached. the piezo is concealed in a project box and attached with doublesided tape to the mdf

    The sheet of MDF

4 holes were drilled so the clamp can be attached horizontally or vertically

    Mousemats cut into circles

Mousemats attached with double sided tape

    The pad clamped down

    Piezo in box

    Box attached-Drum pad is finished

That is very inventive and has a whole lot of charm.

Can I ask why you mounted the piezo underneath and in a box. Did you try mounting it to the timber just under the mouse pad?

It didnt seem to work as well between the mousemat and the MDF. I guess its because the piezo cant bend as well when its between two solid-ish materials. I but it in the box just to look nicer and so if i was carrying the pad in a bag somewhere the piezo and jack wouldnt break or fall off the wood

            Sean,

Nice design! Looks like you could be a contender for the cheapest kit competition. I think you have posted at that thread, so I'll spare the link. Keep track of your costs!
