  • What is in? & How do you build? an FS-5U

I read that drum kits in the TD-20 can be chained and then cycled thru by using a foot switch 'FS-5U' (page 79 in the TD-20 manual)

Has anybody made this foot switch? I would like to take a try at this.

    Thanks

TD-20 (non expanded), acoustic look DIY a to e conversion - some cake pan/ some crossbar method. DIY cymbals, VH-12 :-)

Any momentary foot switch will do.
    Something like this: http://www.partsisparts.net/products...witch-SPST.htm
Add an enclosure and a cable and there you go.

A sidenote; the TDW20 expansion card enables you to use 2 footswitches which can control the fixed hihat option, snare strainer on/off, and ambience or multi-effects on/off. Using 2 switches requires the PCS-31 cable. A quick look at the specs for that reveals it has 2 1/4" male mono and one 1/4" male stereo plug. According to BarT, the PCS-31 is nothing more than a Roland/Boss, good quality but slightly expensive, version of an insert (send/return) cable.

This leads me to conclude that the TD20 footswitch jack is a TRS type. Just FYI.

Hey guys, correct-o-mundo! I found similar information on an old post on some guitar site. He was talking about using two FS-5U boxes, so he made made a single box with two switches wired to a TRS Jack. Then used a TRS cable 1/4" male on both ends. He said this did away with the need for the Y cable from Roland ( PCS-31) and saved the cost of buying two FS-5U swith pedals. Now I need to learn how to set up the drum kit chain so I can use this feature. Well.. maybe I need to make the pedal/switch first.. thank you both for the input
