  • My DIY - I call it the "V-Baton"

    V-Baton...or something like that...

What prompted this was that I wanted was a trigger that someone could grab and use to play along with me on drums. Great for use by a singer that wants to play a cowbell or tambourine.
After not being able to get my hands on a Hart Hammer, I figured I'd give DIY a try. Put this thing together not thinking it would work very well, but about 20 minutes of work and it was done...and worked perfectly.
So excited, I figured I'd make a video about the process, with a demo as well:

Thanks to all you DIY'ers that have contributed here....made the process a breeze.

Don't try to get that through customs. It looks like a pipe bomb!
          Good work though.

I thought the same thing as soon as I finished it.

But that soon gave way to the worry that it looked too much like something....*ahem*....else.
But as Freud said, "Sometimes a pipe is just a pipe."

Hey, that's a great idea Colquhoun, very nice! Must try that on a rainy day!

To a small comment: the video and sound aren't synchronised perfectly, which makes the demonstration a little less credible, but I believe you when you say it works great.

Nice video. I've used a Pintech Dingbat in a similar handheld fashion for hand claps, cowbell, tambourine etc. Your V-Baton should be ideal for a singer's occasional percussion parts.

Through customs!? Sheesh, get anywheres NEAR an airport with that and you'll be drumming in the local lock-up...but it looks like fun - and simple enough for a vocalist!

                    good work, C.!

                              A word of note:
The tip of the endcap with the jack needs to be filed/sanded down a bit. The PVC is quite thick at the end, and the jack is not long enough to protrude through the hole without removing some.
I just used a file to make a flat spot, and the jack went through fine.
