  • My LXE exotic birdseye maple kit.

Just a few pics of my latest endeavors.

Nothing much different with my A to EZ conversion. I did stick with the clear acoustic heads on the bottoms of these. I usually go mesh head top and bottom, but I wanted the look of the acoustic bottom head. I did a bit of experimenting and ended up with some Evans small external muffling on the bottom heads. The result is acceptable at present. Not quite as silent as using mesh top and bottom, but the sound is deadened enough to pass.

OK, so I better shut off the G A S for a while..... I've had quite a run lately since the TDW-20 came out

Wow! Will it ever end?! Seriously though... Do you still have time to play your drums? Nice one though. Surely looks good. Sorry if I missed it in some other thread, but what did you do with the acrylic kit? Did you sell it or something? I thought those shells were custom made, weren't they?

Really Jerry, your kits are amazing.

Thanks Stijn... Still have the Acrylic blues. Starlite acrylic drums have really increased in price since I bought mine.

So this kit makes 3 ..... plus the Tama kit I'm selling to free up some storage space And you're right, I've been spending so much time assembling and building these drums lately I haven't spent as much time with the TDW-20 as I would like.... but now that this phase is complete.....

Jman, Is that the same rack/cymbals that you were using with different shells, or is this entire kit completely new?

Either way, looks great and my hat is off to you once again.

Wow, another FANTASTIC kit Jerry!! Great Job, you must have a lot of storage space over there for all of your kits... what exactly did you use to muffle the bottom heads? I'd like to get something to muffle mine also. I have regular heads on my bottoms as well....

                    What I got is this:

Shop for the Evans Min-EMAD Tom and Snare Dampener and receive free shipping on your order and the guaranteed lowest price.

I was looking for some sort of dampening that wouldn't mess up the look too much. Went to my local GC just to get some ideas. Now I prolly wouldn't have bought these but after I looked at a few ideas the clerk pulled out a box and said, "well, you could try these, we are closing them out in our store and selling them for $.50 ea. "
At that price I bought enough for the kit..... Then after testing them went back and picked up the rest of them they had in stock.
They actually have 2 positions to attach.... as in that picture from GC add, you are supposed to attach the dot to the head underneath the center of the Min Emad strip... there are 2 attach positions under the Emad.... After some experimenting, since I had extra velcro already... I put a couple more dots/squares of velcro under the Min Emad so that there is contact pretty much from the edge to the tip of the Min Emad, and mine are fully extended.... more contact, more dampening.

OK, so even with these applied it does not kill off the noise completely, but it definitely cuts the ringing overtones and rim ringing quite a bit .... I know, because I originally wanted to put clear bottom heads on my Acrylic blues, but ended up using mesh bottom heads because of the noise..... So, the next time I pull the acrylics out I will prolly change out the bottom heads to clears since I really like the look of clear bottom heads on acrylic drums...
So, by cutting the ringing down just a tad, it should be acceptable, and a worthwhile trade-off for me anyway....
They must be dampened well enough, cause the little lady hasn't noticed... or at least mentioned them being louder than my previous kit...

Thanks, same rack and cymbals.... I'll prolly never change my rack, that Gibby rack is great.... And I actually do have a whole bunch of new B8 cymbals, but don't know that I will be doing any.... The ZBT's are working as well as the day I first built them and are still shiny too at least until/unless I get a G A S relapse

I was gonna wait for the movie to come out ...could not resist so I took a peak...beautiful kit J. You change kits more often than I wash my work truck. I expect they trigger nicely like all the Stealths.

BTW...I hope you saw the DW kit the Prof. played Sat. night....man that would make a nice conversion

Thanks my friend. I change kits more often than I wash my work truck too!!! Rain will happen eventually though. The only thing that has changed on my triggering is the custom made foam cones thanks to your foam cone jig (glad I was ambitious when I first got the jig, I pumped out 20 some cones, and those are what I'm using).... and the cones work excellent. Oh, and I have also changed to a crossbar in the kick (changed over to that several months back in my LXE Kurillian kit)with the crossbar mounted about half way between the bottom edge and the beater patch... I actually like the response better that way. Instead of setting parameters similar to RT-series edge mount.... I now am setting to KD120 and fine tuning from there.

Ya know, I've never once seen The Professor at a live show.... I guess he's using that new Snakes and Arrows DW kit now??

The kit Neil played Sat. nite was obivously for that gig...beautiful pearl DW kit with all gold hardware...much smaller than his normal kit.
I've seen Rush about three or four times but not for a couple of years...they played West Palm Beach alot in the last 10 years or so.
I'm glad you are liking the jig...kiss at it's finest
