  • Hey all, my first cymbal works.

Hey, sorry i have no pictures, trust me you don't want to see. Either way i got a crash working last night. Used the same boxes as gastric, etc, the little tabbed project boxes from allelectronics. I installed it all on a really nasty, horrible, dirty, cheap, Japanese cymbal. I figured i would test it out before drilling into my vintage zildjian(still debating on this one as i don't know if it is even worth anything).

Now quick question, using a trigger I/O, what are some of you guys using for some decent base settings?

If i recall correctly, i have a reasonably high gain, 25 on retrigger, 7 on crosstalk(which shouldn't matter as much as it seemed to), and it seems to be working ok. one hit leaves a long sustaining cymbal strike(not choked or rehit.)

Yippie. maybe i'll try ot get some pictures up later, but if you know me, i'm bad about that.

One unrelated question, what are some of the easiest ways to make a pad more sensitive? My kick is a tad on the low sensitivity side. does raising the cone increase the sensitivity? I'm using the l-bracket side mount concept like jmanword.

    Thanks,
    -Dusty-

Sounds good Dusty. I look forward to the pictures. You can also get more sensitivity from your kick by moving the sensor a little closer to the beater. Just don't put it directly under the beater. Good luck!

I'll try to get some pictures up. to so you know, the cymbals are probably from the late 60's, not in great shape, and look like they've never been polished. I'm in the processing of polishing the one, but wow it is a lot of work by hand.

You can also increase the sensitivity by using a larger piezo. I think the established size of preference is 35mm.
