  • Get a Choke Hold eCymbal Choke Switch Templates

The templates for the choke switches are up and completed!

There has been some renewed interest in the idea of a DIY membrane switch for cymbal triggers. I started a thread back in October called, Get a Choke Hold (eCymbal DIY Choke Switch). I had originally wanted to put templates of my projects up then, however do to lack of interest and time I moth balled it.

After having a member of the Vdrums.com community suggest to me that I need to put up some templates of my switch, I decide to finish them. (Thanks Gastric for renewing the interest)

If you would like to get a template to make your own switch, CLICK HERE. They are in pdf formate and there are sizes for 10″,14″, 16″ and 18″cymbals. Please make sure that your computer doesn't scale the template! If you think these templates are missing something please do not hesitate to write your suggestions. I will try to incorporate as many of them as possible.

    Awesome stuff, Hellfire!

I'll be giving these a try in the very near future. And great suggestion on the card stock. You probably need something fairly rigid so it doesn't move around too much when marking or scoring around the template.

Very nice, thanks for posting this.

I also like your cymbal modules, and the price is very reasonable too.

          I agree!

Does the project box really come with the graphic on it like that? That looks very professional and sharp.

I'm beginning to think I'm charging too little! Here are some pictures of the actual product (EXC-1 package). I hope it answers your question.

              Thanks Hellfire ...

I had a go at a choke cymbal... with unused plastic cymbal

Angled top project box with the slots cut for the plate tags, 35mm piezo sits underneath, all fixed on using very strong double sided foam tape (used it before on cymbals, doesn't come off )

The 2 mega thin ally plates were from an old sunbed (where the tubes insert) fixed down with strong V thin double sided vinyl floor tape, didn't use folder cover as sandwich instead used foam tape for more seperation.

Finally covered with some plastic to finish, not spot on but ok (can see edge of ally plate)

Bow sounds good - rim hit sounds very easily with a slight tap- chokes superb

                Looks good daveybabes.

I also wanted to remind everybody that when these templates are used on an acoustic cymbal, that you will need to set the switch back from the edge about 1/4 of an inch.
