  • Gaffer tape emergency

    Guys,

could anybody recommend a common store that might carry some gaffer tape, and what that brand might be?

I'm basically looking for some gaffer tape but need it quick, i.e. from Home Depot, Office Depot or similar, but I don't know the brands and types.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Chris

Don't think you'll find Gaffer's tape in a hardware store. If you know of a Lighting and sound shop near you that would be a good bet... Guit cntr lists it on line. You could call your local GC.

Yeah, I agree with Jman- hardware store for sure. You can actually get a type that has guinea pig hair in the tape which makes it almost unbreakable- 29 out of 30 hitch-hikers can't be wrong!!

If this thread goes much further, I think a distinction needs to be made between Gaffer tape and Duct tape; because it appears some are referring to one and some to the other, when they're not really equivalent: "Gaffer tape should not be compared to duct tape, a far cheaper product which does not tear cleanly and leaves a residue when removed."

Yeah, Gaffer's tape is more expensive than Duct tape and as Bruce says a different animal altogether.... I tape my audio cords down to carpet with Gaffer's tape and no residue gets left behind.... It is a specialized kind of tape.

Thanks. I'm looking for Gaffer tape, not Duct tape.

Where do you live? If there are any commercial photographers, cinematographers, or videographers in your town they likely know where it can be found.
