Best mesh heads 2023

Hi there!
I actually put that purchase on hold - my rabbit hole research on trying to make my DIY 14" snare center-mounted trigger positional sensing led me to focus on the actual triggering and mounting design, versus the mesh-head itself, since the one I currently have "SHOULD" work...
I have one more "version" to try to build, install and test (with limited time at night after kids go to sleep!) - so until I've exhausted that part then I'll resort to a different mesh head... but if/when I do I'll definitely try the Extreme Drums...
Thanks for checking in, and I'll definitely post if/when I end up upgrading the mesh head!

JEeffo - Well, That's indeed a very well rounded sample of the available mesh heads in the market (past or current!).
Good to hear about Marshall and his background; a fellow tinkerer and good reasons to send business his way, and try at least one of the mesh heads.
I fully understand you are a sample size of one, and each person will have a different experience based on preferences; thus I will of course take YOUR recommendation but also make MY decision without holding you "responsible" on the interwebs
Thanks again for the response!Leave a comment:

Aj , Marshall Rinker, owner od Extremedrums.com, is a drummer himself since the late 60's , and has been building drum Triggers for over 30 years. He is based in Indiana, USA. I own 2 sets of his drum and cymbal triggers and I have owned so many of them and these perform the best! But we are talking about mesh heads here. I personally have owned Pearl Muffle heads, Remo SilentStrokes, Pintech Reactions, all single plys, Prism 2 and 3 Plys, UFO, Roland 2 plys, Drum Tec Real Feels, 682 Drums 2 and 3 plys, ZEd 3 plys, and now these 3plys from Extremedrums com. So although I have owned all of these, that doesnt make me an expert or the last word on anything. All gear is subjective! What I like, you may not! That is why I suggested to buy only 1 for a snare or tom, if you want to try one! You decide, your preference and of course, your money!Last edited by Jeffo; 08-01-23, 02:39 PM.👍 1Leave a comment:

Thanks for the tip on the ExtremeDrums; they seem to be US based and reasonably priced... just haven't heard of them before...
Jeffo - you mentioned you tried them "all", as in compared to others? Would love to hear some experience based opinions
Animalglx - based on all of the various opinions on this forum, likely safe to say DrumTec might be "the best", however run into the same issue of only European distribution/retail (and much more expensive).
For reference, I currently have one of those 14" Roland/Remo V-Drums 2-ply MeshHead (before they called them "PowerPly" or whatever).
It feels ok, but now that I'm really trying to get my A2E snare conversion positional sensing working (TD-25) I had to tighten it more than I'd like and it got pretty bouncy.... so I likely don't need "the best" but looking for "better".... If I have to bite the bullet and get DrumTec (buy once cry once) so be it... just looking to see if there are other options that may be ">80%" the quality but 50-60% the price (after shipping to the US)...? is that too much to ask? LOL

Extremedrums.com just came out with a 3ply . I have tried them all, and this one just has a great , realistic feel! Try one on a snare! See what you think!Leave a comment:

Does anyone know if/where to get SpareDrum in the US?
Only found options from Europe... which add almost 30 Euro for a ~25 Euro 14" mesh headLeave a comment:

One more here using spareDrum 3-ply for quite sometime already on the entire kit. I like them and it feels nice.Leave a comment:

I've used drumtec real feel, Roland 2 ply and go edrum and a black hart head. The drum tec feels and triggers nice on the snare using the edrumin. The Roland feels a little more bouncy on the snare but triggers really well with her edrumin so I just switched to that for my snare. I love the goedrum ones for toms. I don't need PS and they are definitely sensitive enough, and the feel great. They are a bit loud but not too loud at all for my basement drum room. In fact I think they sound pretty good with regular resonant heads on my vintage tama imperialstar. I can't speak for the new pro drumtec version but they sound similar to goedrums although goedrum are not at all transparent.
Sounds like what you are describing is the same type of mesh head if it’s louder than the three ply. It’s basically not an edrum head, more like semi acoustic.Leave a comment:
