  • Mesh Heads Available Today

Before I drop money on heads, is there a list I'm not seeing here of sizes available and durability, preferably in usa ? I need basically everything from 8 to 22 and would prefer not to have to waste time being disappointed.

    Thanks !

I still like Roland mesh heads best. Not cheap, but they trigger great and they last almost forever. Those are available in 8, 10, 12 and 14. For the other sizes you might want to go with the 3 plies at UFO: http://www.ufodrums.com/category-s/103.htm
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! ;)

Hi BtnkBndt, I recognise your name from 15 years ago on this forum regarding Visu-lite cymbals etc (I was Sector7 on here but lost my login details).
I second the roland dual ply mesh heads. My homemade 12" snare head is still in great condition after building it 15 years ago. Anytime I try others I like coming back to the Roland heads.

Yeah, been a while for me, can't believe I remembered a password that still worked.

I think I might still have a Roland 14 on a snare around somewhere and Jman, I'm gonna order one of those UFO heads and check them out, 3ply ?

Yeah, on the 3 ply, I haven't tried them, but the feedback all looked good from others in the past. I'll send you a PM. J

Edit .... looks like PMs for you are shut off .... just send me a PM or email and I will give you the info I have .... J

            I use Remo silent strokes.

My first impression was, "these are are not going to last"....but they are solid. I can sometimes see dents when I hit hard, but then they go away. I've been banging on them a LOT. like several hours a day for over a year now.

I've seen a few reports of Silent Strokes failing - rips and tears, etc. They are also very bouncy.

I can't recommend enough the drum-tec real feel 3ply - this is IMO the best mesh head you can get in therms of feel (super realistic rebound!), triggering, looks & built quality.
I as well got couple of Z-ed triplex which are also 3ply and half the price of the real feel, but are not near as good as the real feel and are also partially look-trough (realfeels are on par with the Roland's in that regard - completely thick transparent-wise) .
If you can get a drum-tec real feel, you will be very happy with it for sure (may sound like a commercial, but truth is I am just a satisfied customer).
Drum-tec are also selling these in 5-piece packs for some % savings.

Compared to Roland's, the real-feel has significantly different rebound - much more closer to the real thing IMO - Rolands are more bouncy., thought it is true that I am comparing 10" with a 13" pad.
At the other hand, the Z-Ed triplex I have on 12" is more unnaturally bouncy then the Rolands on the 10".

The OP is in the US, so it might not be cost efficient by the time you tack on the shipping from Europe.

I've seen reports that the moon landing was fake

In my 1st hand experience, they are solid. I just did a close inspection and, after a conservative estimated 1000 hours of play, the toms are pristine. The snare, which gets used 100x more than the toms, is starting to show some wear. It's hard to tell but it may be mostly dirt instead of wear in the strike zone.

I thought they wouldn't last but, believe me, I am a caveman and I hit the hell out of them. They are tough. They may be bouncy but, for what I play (mostly single stroke, standard R&R) , it's never an issue.

I experimented with Billy Blast double ply. They looked rugged but the cone chewed a hole through the bottom of the rough mesh head in 2 weeks.

Customer service response was "I've never seen that before. I'll sell you another one" FU Billy Blast. I should have known from your cheesy loser website lol
