  • No Cake Pan? .. no problem - VEGGIE CAN !

So it seems that it is not always easy to find a cake pan, or a commercial source for a 'professional' looking trigger mount.
or, sometimes a person just wants to get creative with what is on hand....

I haven't bought any pans since the original project with Chromeboy, but in the US it is no problem getting the Fat Daddio pans many of us have used. I suppose that is not the case in other countries though.

That is very impressive. Well done. How does it trigger?

Nice improv! Looks like the "cross ties" would be a bit flimsy though but I guess that depends on the can and the "stretch" to the shell.

it triggers very well- head works great - I have it in a 10" shell. I need to check my trigger polarity, I do not get reliable positional sensing.
I may also move the rim trigger to the underside vs the top side of the suspension. I think I taped too much of the brass - and it is now under the pedestal that is silicone in place.

the cross tie affect - I like that - need to find a use for that phrase.
Actually, the 'cross ties' are not springy. I turned the edges up on the long sides to make a shallow U channel, they are surprisingly rigid, considering how flimsy they were prior to folding the edges up. I pressed down on the platform with the drum in my lap and could make the drum dig into my thigh with nominal flex in the basket.
there is a pic showing a bent nose pliers working the long edge into a u channel
the number of 'ties' would depend on the number of lugs on the shell - mine had only four lugs.

of course, a section of sheet metal could be cut into a basic star shape and folded into a basket too. but, this was a personal challenge to do a low budget conversion :-)

Brilliant! Halfway between a cakepan, a harness and those assemblies with spokes they charge an arm and a leg for... resourcefulness at its best!
