  • VH-12 drop clutch!

I recently purchased a second set of vh12's and a remote hi hat stand. Thought about how to make a drop clutch work and came up with this.
A friend of mine is a machinist and made me the piece, it replaces the top piece of the Roland hi hat clutch and works with a DW drop cluch lever.

Very nice! I have the closed hihat function assigned to a foot switch ,but it's more to carry and wire up.( so most times I don't bother)
What stops the top hat from spinning on the pull rod?

The top hat could spin but really doesn't, I think the small trs cable that connects the 2 cymbals together keeps it pretty much in place.

The Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch works perfectly for the VH12. Just pop off the little top part that the clutch grabs on to and screw it into the top of the threaded rod that's already coming out of the VH-12 and you are all set. I have been playing like this for a while and there really isn't any spin on the top cymbal at all. It stays right in place.

Does anybody know whether the Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch mentioned above will also work with the Roland VH-11 hi hat? Or if there's an alternative that would work with the VH-11? I've seen this but it's very pricey...

thanks for your reply jammin777, it looks like a nifty bit of kit however the Roland VH-11 only has one cymbal and also its double the price of the Pearl DC I mentioned so unfortunately not an option.

              Any other options?

I thought this was common knowledge to be honest. To make a drop clutch work you just combine parts of your clutch with the VH-12 in-built clutch. Very simple... I assume this is why there has never been a forum topic on the situation, but good that you posted as it seems some people were not aware!
